Well it looks like this will be the year of spot and stalk. The weather gods are calling rain and thunder storms for the 5 days I get to hunt, so no water holes for me it looks like. I was wondering what decoy to use. Do I go with a cow or a antelope decoy? I've heard were cow decoy only work if cattle are in the area

Not sure on this one but I did buy a "be the decoy" hat which I'll be trying out in a couple weeks in AZ.

I'm fairly new to antelope with a bow...but have had some success. The big thing is to know when (and when not) to use the decoy. Early season the bucks are curious and will easily come into a buck decoy. If you have a buddy to work with, he can run the decoy while you are behind. Move around, move the decoys head etc...utilize irrigation ditches etc (ie buddy escorts you to the ditch or dip, you stay and he backs up). It seems from my experience about 75yds is their max comfort threshold on ave. Getting that extra 10 yds out of them (depending on your shooting abilities) is the hurdle. When they are rutting, if you pop up the decoy they will typically take the ladies and run. IF...you are between him and the ladies he will address you. The trick is getting in that close before popping up the decoy without the ladies seeing you. It's a blast...have fun.

Bear in mind that a waterhole is also a social area for antelope to hang out.

Been here scouting 2 days water is definitely not going to work.most of the roads are close to lakes then road. But the grass will definitely be high enough to hide myself. And there are at least a few goats out here
