Im at 452, easton 340 fmj. fairly short at 27". Ive never chronographed this bow, but based on the fact that I didn't have to change the pin gap at all from my previous bow when I transferred the sights, i'd say low 280's. Bow shoots like a dream though (2014 Prime Alloy)

I'm shooting a light arrow compared to most. I have the VAP 350's with the aluminum outsert and blazer vanes, 100 gn broad head. It's 388 gn's out of my realm X 28' draw, 72lbs throwing the arrows at 297. I think my arrows are 28 1/2' carbon to carbon.

Carbon tech lynx 300 spine arrows, .204 dia. Black eagle stainless halfouts, Easton g nocks with carbon express nock collars, 2.1" fusion vanes over a 5" wrap, 100 gr Iron Will broadheads. Arrow weight is 505 grains. Shooting a Elite Impulse 34 at 70# 29"DL, moving at 269fps. First year going with heavier arrows and Iron Will heads. We'll see how the elk feel about it in September.

If I was shooting deer I would go lower but I hunt exclusively elk with archery. There’s not much argument for a sub 500 grain arrow. My 30 yard pin on my single pin slider allows point on from 5-35, variation of 2” high to 3” low (35). Hard to argue.

I'm all for heavy arrows and have a 505gr setup now but you can definitely take elk with sub 500 grain arrows all day long. My setup for years was 434gr moving at 288 and had nothing but complete pass throughs and dead elk. I even broke through a femur on a bull once while trying to put a second arrow in him even though the first one was going to do the trick, I had the chance at a second shot so I took it. He took a big step down hill as I released and the arrow quartered through bad and hit the far side femur. Elk was DRT after the second shot even though the shot wasn't pretty it did the job. Broadheads were 100gr QAD Exodus. I switched to a smaller diameter arrow and that's the reason for the change, just trying something new.

Sorry jay, that was confusing. I was talking about my setup. If I can push a 550gr arrow at 276 (sweet spot in my opinion) there’s no reason to go lighter. If I had alligator arms and pulled 50 pounds it would be a different story.

Oh I gotcha, yeah that makes sense. You're getting impressive speed with a 550gr arrow.

28" 400 spine Easton Bloodlines with 75gr brass inserts. 3helical fletch blazers and 100gr 2 blade Magnus Serrazors. Total arrow weight is 415gr/16% foc and out of my 62lb Hoyt Spyder Turbo, they going 280fps. It's been a pretty good setup, but I think I'm going to switch to 330 spine Bloodlines and up the weight to 500-525gr/20% foc.

Shooting 502 grain Gold Tip Pierce at about 276 FPS out of my Prime Rival LD. Love the combination so far, still not settled on a broadhead. Also wondering if anyone knows if someone makes a stainless or titanium outsert to replace the standard GT aluminum one???
