Bow: Dryad ILF, 17inch riser, long ACS RC limbs pulling 57@29. I also use a Mountain Muffler BCY x string and shoot off of a Bear weather rest.

Arrow: Easton 5mm Axis infused, 75grn Brass HIT insert. 175 grain Silver Flame broadhead. Currently using the blazers vanes because that's what was lying around.

Tab: Yost lightweight.

Style: 25yd fixed crawl

MER 25yds.

Shot 1. 25yds standing, light rain with a slight crosswind from right to left. Been shooting close to 150arrows a day leading up to this trying to find the right arrow setup. I think this one works. Ignore the BEA vintage shafts in the quiver. I need a new gripper because the skinny shafts fall out. I will be pretty surprised if the shooting holds up for the next 4 days.

Day 2. Not pretty at all. Rushed the shot. This was the first time I shot an arrow with a pack on in months. The cargo was also wiggling which didn't help. I will not be bringing coach along for the next 3 shots. I did not miss altogether. I hit where the tip of the broadhead is pointing and slipped through the gap. I can say this though. An arrow search is much more serious when there is a 30 dollar broadhead attached.

Day 3. It's been pouring all day. This might be the only break so I decided to head out and send it. This one shot a day is killing me. This one is a little high. I'm going to lower my point of aim a little for the next couple shots. It seems I might be shooting more of a 27yd fixed crawl than a 25. The shot felt really good and I executed my shot sequence. At this point I'm excited to get back to my normal routine on Monday.

Day 4. Felt good. Again it's a little high for my taste but still lethal. I'm interested to see if I'm pulling it back a little further because I'm taking the shot more serious. I'm pretty sure that I'm gonna try a clicker starting Monday.

Day 5. Last shot felt great. Glad it's over. I will be doing a lot of shooting over the next few weeks.

I love them. I have two ILF pairs and my wife has a pair for her Bear Takedown. They seem to get alot of hate on the message boards but I have not had an issue in the last 5 years since I bought them.

Over all I'm happy with my 5 day grouping. One flyer is better than i thought. A 40yd pin adjustment should have me on point. Next CBC ill try 50-60yds

Right now, I think my MER is 60 yards. I'll shoot at a FITA 80 cm target. The yellow is approx 6 inches in diameter and the first red ring is a touch over 9.

2010 Bowtech Destroyer 340,
68 lbs, 27-inch draw length,
385 gr Easton Axis 400,
288 fps.
Spot Hogg Fast Eddie double pin sight.

Day 1
90F, Wind 15, gusting to 25, about 45 degrees from right to left. It was tough to hold in the wind and make a good shot.

211d06fba182ee109d45a5ab68398830.jpg

Day 2
80F, Wind 15 about 45 degrees from right to left. I shot after an hour workout at the gym. A gust pushed my bow left just as I was squeezing off.

5be3b7b34ee5a02f0257038fce568565.jpg

Day 3
80F, Wind 10 with a slight left to right component. I felt I made a good shot.

f32605bc2ea93fdacf77b8bc739bb0c9.jpg

Day 4
80F, Wind 10 with gusts to 20 from right to left almost perpendicular. I felt I made a good shot.

ab3d84bc76889fbf4eecb20fe4300985.jpg

Day 5
I discovered that what I thought was a 122 cm target is actually a 80 cm.
Worst weather day so far.
90F, Wind 25 with gusts over 30 from left to right. Very tough to make a good shot. In a hunting situation, I wouldn't have taken the shot. I would have used the wind to stalk to at most probably 30 yards.

Alright I'm back so here goes nothing.

Hoyt rx1 turbo 72#
Hogg father sight
Stokerized carbon stasis stabilizer
Victory VAP TKO 300

60 yard max

Day 1: 80° no wind (have not shot for 5 days prior due to a trip)

68f7d6f2396d2d7af3ac70fc6bce96ac.jpg

Day 2: thunderstorms with 20 mph winds at night (I shouldn't have shot but did anyway)

Live2hunt custom shelters
497836a7c0fff600d8045bf7ae4e999e.jpg

Day 3: no wind and sunny, but I had I 5 year old come running at me screaming "dad! Dad! DAD! Lexi called Summer a butthead!" And I figured an unfocused shot was safer than a rushed unfocused let down. Maybe I need Joel Turner's iron mind. In the spirit of candor here is the shot.
4b2169d3e72c08ed32893084216e5776.jpg

Day 4: 2 mph tail wind (getting tired of not practicing)
ee5b08cffcf31af44c9709132658a31e.jpg

Day 5: no wind.

This was a useful exercise but I'm glad it's over. I may try again from 80 after I get some range therapy. Some guys unwind at the bar, I do behind a bow.

Will post my first shot later today. This should be fun thanks for setting this up guys!

Hoyt Nitrum 30
26" Draw @65 lbs
Easton Axis 340
QAD Ultra Rest
Bee Stinger Stabilizer
MBG Ascent Verdict 5 pin

I’m limited range wise due to my yard and I don’t have a lot of time to go to an archery range since my wife works nights and I’m home with my 9mo old daughter. In addition to that, I have a brand new arrow setup and have never shot this heavy of arrows before. Due to this I’m going to limit myself to 30 yards because I need to get absolute confidence at this shorter range before moving back farther. I’ve never consistently shot past 50 anyways.

Day 1: Quite breezy, humid, rainy and about 72 degrees. Shot felt good but I think I dropped a hair after releasing. Goes to show a slight change to form between the release and arrow clearance can affect your shot. At 50 yards this would probably have been a few more inches lower which wouldn’t be a great shot.

aaaab91207567e05eee16389be6d4470.jpg

Day 2: Sunny no wind about 83 degrees. Was sore from redoing my bathroom over the weekend and dropped slightly after shooting. I was disappointed in this and it’s really telling that I need to work on proper form (and spend the money to get a range membership). I am taking comfort that I am just low vs left or right with my shot, might just be pin adjustment needed.

0c373de05dcaa5ad416eff5c6250c2bc.jpg

Day 3: Sunny breezy about 80 degrees and humid. Shot felt pretty good. Need to keep consistent form to avoid drifting left or right.

5db6292d7e9052e6166298f98e60fa91.jpg

Day 4: Hot as all hell and windy here. Shot felt good just slightly right. This is making me want to buy that $200 yearly range fee!

e41e7835d734d97f230c2c77c66f14de.jpg

Day 5: Windy and hot I took this last shot kneeling. Felt good and I’m happy I could get on target this fast with a completely new setup. Now to get her dialed out to 60 and practice practice practice! I’ll likely do this challenge a few more times this summer.

Thanks Rokslide!

Bow and such: Rose Oak Recurves 58" Puma marked 53@28 59@30 Olivewood and Ziricote. 55" BCYx 23/24 string with .019 Halo from Chad Weaver. Halo string nocks above and below following Ryan's Method. String leeches at what I think are the 1/4 nodes. Clicker drawn to about 30.5". Shooting three under with a big shot elk leather. Gold Tip Kinetic Pierce 250 with regular insert and 20gr screwed into the back, 250gr tips. Arrow cut 30 1/8" from end of carbon to string groove yields ~31" arrow overall. I have shot one pheasant with this, and never loosed an arrow at anything live other than a pheasant. I had it made for me when I graduated college, and I love the quiver art because that looks like my Halle that passed away over the winter.
About 25 yards should be a respectable Maximum range for all species....

Day one 5/15/2018:
Not much wind, standing. I guessed this to be about 25 yards. After I shot, I was leaving the club and saw a gentleman who had a rangefinder so I borrowed it and went back to find it was 24 yards.

Day two 5/16/2018:
I had to go to the license plate place, so in between that and work I stopped at the archery club since I knew traffic would be a booger. This turkey is on the marked and baled range in between the 20yd and 30yd bales. I would say it is right at 26-27yds. I have trouble with shots that do not have an immediate back drop behind them as I think it monkeys with my depth perception not having an immediate basis of perspective. No wind and standing. I found out on day 5 that this was 27.5 yards.

Day three 5/17/2018:
Left early for work so that I could stop by the range. I will see if I can scrounge up a range finder before this is finsihed, but I believe this elk is 28ish yards. I should have dropped the kids off at the pool before I left the house, and was pretty distracted with them knocking at the door.... This was not enough back tension with my string side and too much shoulder, I should have let down and reset.

Day four 5/18/2018:
I figured I should wake up early and follow up on that wounded elk.

Day five 5/18/2018:
Made it back out in between rains at dawn! I took a rangefinder and this elk is 30.5 yards.

I am going to call my max effective range around 25yards after this exercise.

Bow: prime rival @67 ish pounds. MBG 4 pin. Quivilizer. Hamskea drop away.

Arrows: 658 gr FMJ dangerous game 300 spine shafts at 28.5", a 4" wrap, 4 fletch AAE vanes in a right helical on the back half, 125 grain northern broadheads.

Day 1: no pic. In fact, first time in a very long time I've missed my target.... I decided last minute to start today off as day one. I got outside and instantly called it past last light, but since there is light pole by my shop I decided to still do it. 50 yard shot with a broadhead. Drew back and instantly knew it was too dark for a shot while hunting. I could barely see the outline of my 3d target even with the light pole... however I've made this shot dozens of times this last week alone and decided I could still do it since I knew where that target sat in comparison to my back stop. Well this shot felt solid and good but I went right over the top, of it all... I almost didnt post this, but then I realized I needed to. Maximum effective range isnt just knowing how far you can or cant shoot, its stopping when you know you should. I very blatantly ignored my own comments of "I shouldn't take this shot". Tonight it cost me a miss and possibly an arrow as I couldn't locate it in the dark in the trees, brush, creek bottom, and hillside behind my target. However in a hunting situation it could have easily lead to an injured animal or a lost opportunity on a "trophy" animal. Day 1= fail, purely for ignoring my own impression and not letting down.

IM WITHDRAWING. To try again later or if that's not allowed in DQ'ing myself.

Tonight was day 2. After searching for last nights arrow with no luck then adding a rubber mat above my back stop I took another 50 yard shot. Held for a low heart shot. Everything felt great. I barely stopped the arrow with the rubber mat I added. Over 12 inches high and after going through the rubber mat my arrow smacked the chair I was using to hold the mat up with and broke the field tip off. After tons of staring and staring I gave in and shot an arrow at 20. I nearly missed my 18-1 rinehart. After 2 more arrows and forever looking I found out that the super bumpy ride down from my mountain course had bounced my dovetail in over half way. Slid it out and hit dead on. So I have to restart due to the extra arrows.

I'll also mention, I got this bow around Feb, set it up with all new accessories, got the new arrows a month or so later and broadhead turned it last month. I figured I had something loose and looked forever at the usual things, rest movement, loose pins or ser screws....

This is my first year ever using a dovetail and had not thought once to double check it...... great lesson for the hunts for this year!!!

(I also think I'd have not missed last night if I would have checked that)

OK, I'm in. I'm calling 60 yards as my MER. I'll be shooting a 2017 Hoyt Carbon Defiant, 70 lbs, 29.5". Specialty Archery Peep, Axcel Accutouch Carbon Pro (without accuclicks), QAD Ultra-Rest HDX, VAP TKO 350 @30", 125 gr field points (can't shoot broadheads in the municipality), Spot Hogg Wiseguy rigid. Shots will be posted as they happen.

Day 1: overcast, swirling wind 10 mph

Day 2: no wind, 52 deg

Day 3: light, variable winds. 55 deg.

Day 4: no wind, 56 deg. Shooting in my office clothes, so not exactly hunting conditions.

Day 5: swirling, gusty winds 15 mph. Sunny and warm, 63 deg. Definitely not the way I wanted to end this challenge. Had to hold a long time for the wind to stop blowing my bow around and still ended up way right.

Just for fun, since my challenge is now over, I took a few more shots at 60 using what I learned from the first shot. Here are the results, and the rig I am using. This has been a fun, informative thing to do. Looking forward to next year, and already calling 70 yards.
