Day 5 815 am post backpack cardio

Interesting challenge. It was really hard for me to shoot only one arrow a day but I think it increased my mental focus knowing I had to live with that one arrow until the next day. Must have done me some good because heres my next 2 post challenge groups from 5 yards past my MER. Some of my best shooting since I started shooting the strugglestick in earnest 3 months ago.

I'm going to give this a shot.
I haven't shot due to work but let's have fun anyway.
mer=51 yards
Bowtech Experience 27 3/4 inch draw
Maxima Express Hunter arrows
3 blazer vanes and slick trick standard 85 up front
Montana Black Gold Sight
QAD rest

10 inch plate for elk vitals

day 1
no excuses for weather(beautiful and no wind)
81d20bd8f1e392267be7089228409f63.jpg

day 2
another hot but beautiful day.
I was disappointed yesterday, but may be a form issue. almost the same hole today

day 3
sunny with 15 mph right to left cross wind and post shoulder workout.
Now that the excuses are over her is the embarrassing shot! Truth is I punched it.
4161b14e12c24f8ad4b6513eb815560d.jpg

day 4
This is getting embarrassing. Yesterdays shot creased the top of the target dead center but not enough foam to stick.
7c2374e75a092c1fe413ae1e87c71f71.jpg

day 5 finally
With the exception of my day 3 punch job, all my arrows have been in about a 4 inch circle. Problem is this circle is about 6-8 inches high. Since I haven't been practicing I believe my anchor point has changed. I'm really looking forward to being able to shoot more than one arrow and figure out my issue because this has been frustrating and humbling. I need to do this challenge more often. Thanks for a great idea and challenge!

Super shooting Spencer @ offgrid and Tony Trietch.

I'll be going back through the thread soon and adding qualifiers. If you've qualified and I don't have you on the list, go ahead and PM me, include your post # and specify if you're on Tapatalk or full site.

Thanks

Hey guys, finally got my shit together and started today.

Mathews halon, 70 lb limbs maxed out, wherever that gets me

Goldtip Hunter xt @ 501 grains

Mer 60 yards

Anything in the black circle I'll be happy with. In the white is acceptable.

Day 1 Sunny and 5 mph head wind
e5b72cb8596f02aa62b6388954ab5187.jpg

Day 2 Light rain and calm wind, no bino harness on today. Broke a little high but still happy with the shot

c528eb801a5e44115bb2308ab51c8631.jpg

Day 3 Sunny and 10 mph right to left cross wind. Working on learning how to bubble into the wind.
6869fc6efc12b32261658c7467e6474e.jpg

Day 4 Cloudy and 10 mph left to right. I have no idea why I'm this high, shot felt like the best one of the 4 so far. Ok on an elk yet, definitely not on a deer.

1867d20df4592b6d61fa6806d492dc1b.jpg

Day 5 Same conditions as yesterday but got out at 5 to shoot first thing. Complete breakdown in shot execution. Rushed the shot, don't even think I checked my level and then went Mike Tyson on my trigger. Good lesson to learn on my last shot.

Had to restart the challenge, I fell this weekend out bear hunting and landed on my bow. Shot all my pins to make sure none of them were off.

Hoyt Charger
125 grain Iron Will Broadheads

Fifth shot 6/3/18:

After falling hard, having to shoot all my pins out to 80 to make sure they weren’t off, and restarting the challenge, I can say for sure that I won’t be pushing my first shot beyond 60 yards anytime soon. You can see on the bear where all four of my 70 and 80 yard shots came in too high. Judging by my complete 5 shot cold at 60 group, I feel like it’s my ethical MER. Fun challenge, thank you to Rokslide and the sponsors for putting it on.

Side note: these Iron Will Broadheads fly really well. I’m extremely impressed with the field point accuracy. Any difference was definitely shooter error, not equipment.

As I love procrastinating, I figured I'd jump in today so I would finish on the 3rd of June!

MER: 50 Yards
Bow: xpedition Denali 60 lbs 29"
Sight: black gold ascent verdict 5 pin
Arrows: Gold tip Hunter XT 340 Spine with 125 grain field tips
Release: scott shark
Quiver: Octane 5 Arrow
Stabilizer: Bee Stinger 8" with a shrewd quick disconnect

Note: My season ended last year with a broken sight and I just started shooting again few days ago. Apparently a plastic part on my sight isn't designed to hold a 200lbs guy, plus a 40 lbs pack falling and landing on it. Honestly, it's probably good it broke vs bending something metal. All that to say, I think I may need to adjust my 50 yard pin, 3 inches down, after this is over.

Day 1
Light wind in my face
wyGlTyjm.jpg

Day 2
10 mph wind @10 o'clock
I also put a tape up there so you can get a reference for the white dot/black ring(4.75")
0z8l1q0m.jpg

Day 3
I ended up waiting until there was a lull in the wind. I felt really good about that shot, confirming I need to adjust my sight a little bit after this is over.

EDH7AqQm.jpg

Day 4
Felt like a rushed it
cllpIVCm.jpg

Day 5
Now that Im done I'll make adjustments to my 50 pin. That shot felt really good

Getting started at the last min, My MER is low, I just switched to shooting “Joel Turner Style” I am shooting a left handed bow right handed with a thumb glove. I have only shot this bow over 10 yards a few times. I have stayed close trying to figure out this thumb thing.
Bow: Left handed Tribe Archery Halo ILF 17” with Carbon Blackmax 2.0 Limbs 47Lbs at 29”
Arrow: 31” Victory VAP .166 with 300 gr point
MER: 20 Yards
Day 1: Had to sneak this one in at work in the shop (don’t tell the boss) Shot felt good and the release felt clean.
42FF52EE-9F30-4777-A323-FCE82CE726DE.jpg

Day 2: Bino harness on, WINDY 25mph windy shooting into the wind. I’ll take it!
FE7BFFE7-B391-4F89-95FB-0D3A13C34355.jpg

Day 3: Winds light, wearing bino harness and shooting from my knees, sitting on my heals. Had to cant the bow to clear the ground. Just outside!
215C4298-EBE2-4144-A376-FC81C8574F63.jpg

Day 4: I was stuck at work all day again today so had shoot this one across the shop again. Standing in a polo and jeans.
0366396A-20AC-4798-9311-986521757A41.jpg

Day 5: Sunny calm winds. Standing with pack and bino harness on, the shot felt great on the release.

Hey all, yesterday was the last day to enter the challenge to get all five arrows. I'm updating the qualified list right now, thanks to those who sent me their post # after they qualified.

just FYI, I deleted the list that was on page four, the only qualifier list is in post #1.

If you're NOT on that list, I need a PM with your post #, and if you're on full-site or Tapatalk IF you've qualified.

Some people are PM-ing me before they've shot all five arrows-- no need for that, just let me know when you've qualified.

This thread is getting huge, so I could miss someone if they don't PM me when they qualify.

Thanks all, some good shooting going on, some reality-checks too!

Hey guys, I just left S&S archery about 20 minutes ago, where I shot this video on the grand prize in the compound division – the Black Gold Verdict 5-pin. This is a custom built sight for S&S that has all the features Steve and the guys think are best for Western hunting. You can watch this quick video of Rob McConnell explaining the features. It’s a sweet sight.

OK, just got the next batch of you guys qualified. Check the list in post #1 and make sure you're on there if you should be. Remember to send me your post number and if you're on full-site or Tapa Talk if you contact me.

Virtually everyone that PMd me said this challenge was anywhere from helpful to a real eye-opener. That's why we do it! Thanks all. I'll close the thread Sunday night and start the drawing process next week.

I’m shooting a 30” Hoyt carbon defiant. 65# draw with 29-1/2” draw length. Hamskea versa rest, 6/10” quick release bee stinger stab, spot Hogg Tommy Hogg site, spot Hogg wiseguy release, and Easton carbon injexions 4mm @ 464 grains.

My effective range will be 75 yards. The target I’m shooting is an 18” rinehart so the kill zone will be anywhere within the diamond of bullseyes in the center. I’ve been in the mountains for the last week with no service so this is compiled.

Day 1
I felt great with 5 mph variable wind. The shot was at last light.

Day 2
Winds were variable about 5 mph again. This time I shot in the afternoon. Still felt great
emoji106.png

281d899b5b32b6140f667dfad7368900.jpg

Shot was about 2-1/2” @ 1 o’clock
Day 3
Winds again were variable 5-10 mph. The shot was in the afternoon again. Still feeling good but getting tired from long days working solo on the cabin.
50dd8fe6b718ad8229dd60a85385ff29.jpg

Shot was only off by about an 1”
This shot was taken first thing in the morning after coffee. No winds and felt real stiff. Dam age
emoji16.png

34a4a08445256b914bfe37c2a68d39e8.jpg

This shot was off 3 fingers @ 9 o’clock
Final shot was taken around 10 am. Variable breezes again 5-10 mph. I felt real unsteady on this shot. Not my usual self but the shot was still in the kill zone BARELY
9b5d4499b32040c78af6ac38998f0317.jpg

The shot was off by 4 fingers @ 2 o’clock

One real good thing about doing this is that in the past I’d always tell myself that on a hunt and it’s the last day I would use max range if need be. Not the case! All future hunts I will reduce my max range by 3 yards each day after 5. So if I’m on a 10 day hunt, last day will only be 60 yards. Thanks for doing this again guys

My wife and I decided to do this together with the intent of this being a competition between each other. We are both very unhappy with the results. We were expecting to be hitting 10 rings - not avoiding them. For me, I'll be doing 1 arrow practice and working to find my true MER.

I'm shooting a Mathews Chil R. 85% rock mod. 68#. Beman ICS hunter 340 with standard insert and 100 grains (these are my old arrows I used for TAC so losing any wouldn't hurt so badly) - my preferred hunting arrow is the BEA spartan 300 with the 75 grain weight and 100 grain insert. IQ 7 pin pro sight. bee stinger stabilizers 10" up front, 8" back. scott longhorn release. my intended species is antelope - i'm shooting the pig target for a clearly marked 10 ring. distance 55 yards

My wife is shooting the diamond infinite edge pro. bass pro envy x5 arrows 500. trophy ridge 5 pin micro adjust sight. scott hero release. her intended species are pigs/deer. distance 20 yards. Her post is #122 on full-site

day 1 (Saturday, May 26) - 7:30 pm, no wind
my shot:
fg7MvUp.jpg

Day 2 (Sunday, May 27) 4:30 pm, no wind, pretty harsh sun
my shot:
8hmYe1s.jpg

Day 3 (Monday, May 28) light wind left to right, 5pm sunny
my shot:
EWu5vvT.jpg

Day 4 (Thursday, May 31), pretty good wind left to right, 6pm for mrs. 8pm for me. setting sun
my shot:
UQzGP06.jpg

Day 5 (Friday, June 1) strong wind left to right, 1pm for mrs., 5:30pm for me, bright sun
my shot:
bffE0RJ.jpg

The results surprised both of us. I believe the pressure got to her - she generally shoots better. Me - I think I'm just not a good shot. I'll be paying more attention to the first shot now to see my true MER before august.

Stonewall, thanks for jumping in. I've got you qualified but the Mrs. needs to be a member as it's a member's only challenge. Just have her join and let me know her screename and I'll edit her post and get her qualified.

OK, I qualified a few more this morning.

Tonight is deadine, I'll be closing the thread before midnight, so get your entries in. I won't be reopening the thread until I draw.

Also, some of you aren't posting valid links to photos. If I can't see your photos, you're not qualified.

This is why I ask for the post # when you PM me, as post # on full site is not the same as Tapatalk and it's too time consuming to scroll looking for a post. Please check your links and if you don't know how to upload, here's a how-to from SHTF

Clear and cool this morning for shot 2.
49df6abf47dd819b437cff1c2ca074df.jpg

Warm and humid this morning. I felt my bow arm drop st the shot. Still dead though.
Day four
e47787f43f6cf71477d9190ffb97932c.jpg

Hot and calm. I ran a half marathon today and figured it would mess with my shot. Not sure I’ll do better than this one. Felt great.

Hot today! 85 and humid. 10mph cross wind.

OK, I'm closing the thread. I just qualified a bunch more.

I also sent PMs to a few people that need to fix their pictures. If I can't see the pics, you don't qualify. I think you can still edit your posts if the thread is locked but I'm not sure, so I'll leave it open. But no new entries will be counted after this post (It's 10:20 MTN Time FYI)

Please check the list and make sure you're on there. If you're missing and qualified, send me a PM.

Rokslide staff and mods don't qualify if you're wondering why they're not on the list.

I think I'll let this sit till Tuesday to make sure I give everyone a chance to check the list or fix their pics, but for those who finished on time, you're odds of drawing will be pretty close to the the number on the qualify list on post #1. Trad odds will be especially good.

Thanks everyone, I love reading how this has helped people--I know it helps me when I do it, (as humbling as it is!)

Thanks for putting in the Leg work on this Robby. I don't post on here as much as I should but the general attitude on this site is the reason that I check in on a daily basis. That attitude is certainly a reflection of the work that You, Ryan, and the rest of the moderators do. So thanks for this opportunity and a special thank you to the sponsors as well.
