Black Bear Colorado "Mentor/Guidence"

So I'm relatively new to hunting in general yet alone bear hunting. This fall I would like to try and take a black bear here in Colorado. I live in the Denver metro area thus why wanting to stay with in the state. I know there are far better places to hunt black bear but I can not afford to go out of state or pay for a hunt. So I am looking for any and all advice on a good unit, tactics ext. I would like to do it with a rifle, and am currently looking at units 421 and 42 near Vega State park. But if there are better units that you may know of that require 0 preference points/otc tags, I would like to hear what you got. Thanks for your time.

You can kill bears in every central Colorado unit without points. Hunt as early in the season as possible. Sept 2 on. Bears noticeably slow down as September progresses. Get vantage points above thick canyons and bottoms. Glass, glass, glass. Be patient and don't discount hunting all day long.

Plenty of bears to kill in Colorado and big ones too. Focus on food and water sources. Choke cherries and acorns are a bear magnet and so is water. Try to find remote ponds or wallows in tight canyons.

Forgot to mention if you find a good pond with sign sit all day. I have killed a lot of bears between 10 and 3 when most guys aren't out. The hotter the better too
