Thought I would share this years Idaho spring bear. Both were spot and stalk. My daughter (14) got her first bear. It was a decent color phase boar.

Mine was a small sow but was still proud of it. It was a long way in and with the longbow.

Small sow as well, but beautiful color phase and first bear for me. Glad to have done it with a bow but it was no long bow! Congrats man!

Is the meat from a spring killed bear any good? After hibernating and metabolizing nothing but body fat I can't imagine a spring bear tastes anything like a fall nut and berry fed bear.

Every spring bear I have had from here in north Idaho was very good eating.

Any recipes or cooking instructions? Hoping to have a Washington spring bear this year and want to make sure I make the most of it.

My favorite one was the most simple: shush kabobs. Olive oil and a little seasoning, paired with bell peppers and pineapple. Turned out really well and was a good way to introduce bear meat to people who hadn’t tried it before and were skeptical.
