Morning everyone, was doing some thinking and I'd like to look into a black bear hunt in SE Alaska. I'm looking at 1C, 1A, 1B and unit 3. Has anybody here hunted in those units? Not looking for honey holes just general advice on the areas. I'd be flying in and renting a vehicle, most likely solo DIY. If I can do a fall hunt instead of spring I'd like to be able to hunt deer as well. Thanks in advance, Mark

1A and 1C are the mostly heavily populated areas in SE so there is A LOT more pressure, FYI.

If it's a spring hunt, my advice would be to rent a boat and stay at a forest service cabin (recreation.gov) to base your hunt from.

Biggest bears are in Unit 2 but good luck drawing a nonresident-unguided tag.

I deer hunted on pow island last fall. Flew with family air and got dropped at a lake for a week. The pilot was good and they made everything super smooth. I shot a buck and could have shot at least one bear. Its not like there were bears running everywhere but theres no shortage either. Letme know if you want any info from my trip.
