Well, i have 5 good years of service from my last packbag i sewed up and it has grown a bit tired from lots of meat hauling ( agreat problem to have!) link here to that packbag I posted on: http://www.rokslide.com/forums/diy-gear-modifications/6879-homemade-tri-zip-pack-duplex-frame.html Rather than just touching up with some repairs on zippers and straps, I decided to sew up another bag that will add volume as well. I didnt follow a pattern but just went with features I like. My last was a tri-zip and this will be a top loader. That pack has been great, but I was just getting the itch. I did a double stack of side pockets/pouches. I don't think I will use the long pockets often but wanted to see how it would come together doubled up like that. I am still trying to decide between a roll top or fold over style ala Reckoning. I have made good progress but still need to decide on my final strap locations/configuration and what stype of a lid I want to make for it. Also gonna add some hang tags around inside and out. Also considering what layout I will use for a load shelf on whether to integrate it permanently and whether to design it so it can wrap front or back like you can do with a stone glacier setup. Anyway, fun stuff.

Here goes:

Yeah, this was supposed to be foliage but the lot color was really off or they sent me the wrong one. Got too good of a deal on it to send it back though. I think it looks good though.

Okay, here it is! I still need to properly finish off my upper zipper stops, fab up a meat shelf and do a removable lid for when using the overload, but just didn't get to it tonight. I will knock them out over the next few days. I went with double layers of cordura on the front below the zipper and the bottom. I left the section of strap open below the zipper to try it out for securing the lower cam of a bow. I thjink the side pockets turned out well. The big dawgs will come in handy for when every cube counts and when I don't need it, I can use the lower outside pockets for quick access to spotter and scope, etc. I did not sew in the straps yet where the sides meet the back of the pack. I may try them loose for a while and see how that goes. Its an easy mod to sew them in later. I used some split hardware that slides onto the pals easily for the straps going to secure the upper flap. I figure I can move them up or down as needed depending on the load out. same goes for the straps going around the bottom with the split hardware. I will have to get some pics of it loaded to the brim while wearing it and get a better feel for max load size. It is significantly bigger than my last packbag though! Also as I get the loadshelf and lid done, I will post pics on those in the coming days as well.

Here you go:

Also, i will eventually split some triglides to replace some of the plastic hardware with sewn off ends and some velcro strap minders to clean up the look more and keep it more orderly. I just wanted to toss something on there for now to give you a feel for a quasi-finished product...

Nice job. Got a question as I'm working on one myself. Do you find it an issue that you don't have access to all the tab loops to hook your load lifters to. I've played with a couple designs but just not satisfied with what I've come up with for being able to cut holes to access them all and have considered doing it like yours where I only use the top one.

I have a gen 2 duplex so dont have the multiple tab loops to work with. You could try a setup similar to hill people gear though and it should give you better access. At least if it is the same still as years ago. They had a large flap that hangs down between the lifters with a tab loop on each side and the has a strap with a g hook come across to hook in from each side.

Well, it is all finished now, I was going back and forth on some lid ideas but went fairly basic. Got the split triglides in place, added a couple hooks to hang a bladder inside, added a couple tabs to the bottom of the pack to route straps and swapped zipper pulls for cordage although these pics are before I snipped off the metal pulls.

I stuffed it with some pillows and other odds and end for photos. I cant want to get it out and try it for real!

That looks fantastic. Makes me want to make one for myself. Each kifaru pack has something I like, but there isn't one pack that has them all. The new fulcrum is close, but it's way too big for me.
