My Mom gave my wife and I a queen size down comforter, the wife is allergic so it is sitting in a 45 gallon contractor bag. It's heavy and probably has 3-4 inches of loft, queen size so that's a lot of feathers ! Anyone have any experience in re use of down ? I was thinking about an underquilt for a hammock but I can't sew, there is probably enough down to do 2 or 3 of them. Any other ideas ? Thanks !

Unless you know the pedigree of the down, you are probably wasting your time. You would be much better off ordering down of a known quality. The reason it is so heavy is that much of the fill is feathers.

Ive done some research about "down allergies" and it seams it usually not the case. They are actually allergic to the dust, mold or other low quality materials that are used in the product. Most people have no allergies when using a good clean down bag from a known manufacturer with good quality down.
