First DIY pack

Well, after several months of cussing and throwing things, I think I'm done with my first pack. This hasn't been a joy to do. With my slow learning curve and my "instant gratification" personality, it was a struggle to even finish it. So many times I wanted to just send my drawings, materials and a handful of cash to either Squirrels or Pods, and just say finish it. Either way it's done. I'm still gonna do some serious testing before I commit to taking it out west. I'll probably do some ruck runs with #25 pounds of sand and a steel pipe inside the gun scabbard. I don't think my local park would appreciate someone packing a rifle around. Now for the pictures!!!

Just the bag

Now with a Savage Model 12. It's got a 26" bull barrel and a 6x18x40 Nikon scope in case anyone's curious. Fully dressed it weighs 12 pounds.

All done up with the wings and a Kifaru lid.

Here you can see the side access to the water bladder compartment. It's got my 3 liter camel back in it. It's the zipper right next to the frame.

If I had it to do over. I would never have bought the scabbard from Eberlestock and just make one while I was making the pack. It was a pain to sew around and through all those layers, especially with the padding that's inside the scabbard. Next time, if there is a next time, I'll make my own.

Now with the bag collapsed and the wings folded in.

Thanks!! I'm definitely not gonna take any close up photos that highlight my stitching. The main bag and wings weren't too bad to make, but everything around the scabbard was a pain.

Looks good! I know how frustrating it can get. I also build my own pack the first project I did and it was definitely a learning experience
