Mod to SO stove dampers. Grind down end of stake with flap welded to it enough so that an expanding 3mm x .5 die can thread the end right up to flap. Get a 3mm x .5 wingnut. Drill out welds holding 'pipe' together. At this point assembly can put this back together. Flattening out 'pipe' completely is not totally possible but it's a better package than original to my thinking.

One thing I've noticed is that doing this keeps the damper flap where you put it. I've had one of these dampers where pressure from heat going up damper would move the flap so that the damper wouldn't stay where you want as the flap would move positions too easily. That won't happen with this mod as the wingnut can be adjusted to keep flap from arbitrarily moving.

I hear there may be a 'factory' version that folds flat coming out soon. Prototype being worked on. Haven't seen it myself, but hopefully will see it this week. If it works, it'd probably be a better option than what I did.
