Posting this here as I expect more folks will know their way around sewing.

I cut an OR dry bag on a trip. I stitched it with whatever thread I had. Plan to seal it with seam seal and add some tenacious tape on the inside.

I want to step up my sewing repair game. I need some decent needles and a good quality thread.

What type of needles and thread should get? I am looking for something that can do repairs for tents, tarps, outerwear. I plan to have some in my possible size kit for field repairs and a stay at home version.

Thanks

Just buy some nylon upholstery thread at walmart. As far as straight needles, you really just want one with an eye just big enough to accept the thread you are using. Bigger needles make bigger holes in the fabric. I don't know where I got them but the semi circular needles work the best for me for repair work. They are like suturing needles. You can just work from the topside of the fabric that way. I know you can get them from tandy leather. I'm sure you can get them online no problem.
