First elk. Day twelve of the hunt. Solo DIY OTC public land in Idaho. Called him in during a snow flurry to just over 20 yards. First shot was lethal and he ran into the creek and couldn't get out. Once I realized he wasn't going to get out of the water I unloaded the quiver until he stopped breathing.

The series of events that day was a rodeo. Butchering in the creek with him was the worst part, but I'm happy to say he's in a cooler back in Nevada.

Got my first elk on the last weekend of the archery season here in CO. Hiked my ass off all season, and finally made the connection on this 6x6. 20yrd shot, he ran 20 yrds and tipped over. Took the pic as he laid when I walked up on him. Broke him down that night because I was solo, 5 miles back, and knew I had my work cut out for me. View attachment 58184

My first bull. Solo DiY New Mexico. I'm pumped that I was able to get such a good pic being by myself. I wedged my phone into the frame of my kifaru, set it to video and then took screen shots

Congrats on the nice bull. Sounds like you put the time and effort into earning that thing.

Great bull man. But what the heck? I don't see a mountain, or even an ant hill for miles in that pic. That's not elk hunting.;)

Just giving you a hard time. I wouldn't even know what to do with that flat land hunting. Those hills look much more interesting, but you go where the elk are.

First archery elk hunt with my brother. Called this bull in to 10 yards for him and he made a great shot.

I was wondering how you took that sweet pic!

Had to get up close in the thick stuff to get him, he didn't like being pressured and bugled at and finally came to fight. He had been chasing a five point off all morning, and was dogging one particular cow.
