I will be hunting first rifle in unit 43 this year. I haven't been able to get boots on the ground due to other commitments. I have been scouring google earth to try and get the lay of the land (it's really steep) but am having trouble seeing distinguishing vegetation amounts and locations.

The historical imagery for the area I want to hunt has some major holes in it and I have to go back to Oct 2010 to see any green at all. In the more present images it looks like there is a fair amount of blow down. I wasn't aware that that area was known for that. Could it just be shadows cast. I know a lot can change over the course of 7 years so I want to make sure I'm working with up to date information.

If anyone has any hints on where I might find that information or would be willing to discuss it further I'd really appreciate it.

In Bing maps, select Birds Eye view and zoom in. If you rotate the view 90 degrees, some areas have different views available. For example, you may be able to compare North and East facing views of a hillside to get a better understanding.

ZoomEarth is pretty good. It allows a little different zooming than Google Earth. I've noticed it can really change up what a drainage looks like in terms of vegetation.

^^^ I usually have google earth and zoom earth up at the same time.. Seems like zoom earth is more concurrent but I really like the features of google earth for measuring, rotating, 3D, etc
