Small 6x5 (as in the final fork is only a few inches each way). Another memory in the books and reload of the freezer.

My first big game kill. I called this elk in from the next ridge over. It came in to 28 yards and stopped quartering towards me. I put a shot through the shoulder and heart. It rolled backwards and was down. The back legs were still kicking so I put a mercy shot through the back of its head and punched my antlerless tag. I was very surprised to find out it was a young bull, not a cow.

It was a fairly easy pack out. Less than a half mile to camp.

Now I'm home butchering my highly pressured, public land, trophy bull.

All I had was a doe tag due to me chickening out on that $700 MT tag. With my daughter being born this year in July, I didn't want to risk something happening and being strapped for cash or have her get sick before leaving my wife alone for 5 days. The other two guys in my group found success and we all tagged out. Wind was hell but was a fun trip! I will be back to get my first Muley buck next time.

Got a cow last month and another one on second season opening morning here in CO both public land DIY solo. My photography is horrible so I have one photo that I wasn’t ready for, getting good photos when i’m alone are quite a task for me. I realized this when I just looked through this thread at all the top notch shots. Looks like I’ll be adding something else to my off season to do list/ improvement plan (basic, simpleton, photography for idiots)!

Great Bull

Thanks guys. I'm very proud of him. First and only Bull to date and it was taken in the back country on public land. Took me three trips but I packed it out myself. Gross score was only 318 but he fools everyone and people typically guess him to be a 340+ bull.

Just listened to that podcast. Steve makes me sound like a superstar! Have to admit our hunt wasn’t as “sucky” as theirs, we managed to find the elk low and close to the boat. While there were bears, we didn’t have any trouble. I guess we got lucky, and it was a hell of a lot of fun!

Idaho otc tag..into elk every day but didn't make it happen until the morning hunt of the last day. we spotted a small herd and made a move. 450 yards across a small canyon. She's a trophy in my book. a buddy also was able to harvest a cow and another buddy a 5x5 on this hunt.
Was very successful and full of amazing memories.

My weekend project. The 5x5 from Afognak Island. Wife says “not in the house”, so these are going on a plaque in the office.

2017 Missouri Breaks rifle bull. 15 years to draw the tag, shot a 325-inch 8x6 on day 5. It was a really cool hunt and I shot my best bull so far. I forgot my camera when I shot it so all my pics are from the final pack trip out at first light the next day.

Solo wilderness hunt in NV in early October. The elk called me in at 8,000'. I'm really happy to have a freezer full of elk meat again!

I listened to the Rinella podcast as well. They weren't kidding when they talked about the mass on those bulls. Those are some thick tines!
