I been shooting 200gr lrtx barnes out of it . Mostly for steel plates out to the end of the field, 600 yds. I have taken a few deer with it but what do you think of it for an elk hunt. 3 3/8" group at 500 yds. and is my best shooting gun.
I personally wouldn't want to carry it along for the ride, but if you shoot it well and you like it there's absolutely no reason why a 300 RUM wouldn't work on elk. Heavens, I didn't feel undergunned at all with my 30-06 and my cousin used a .308 this year.
Have you used the lrtx? I have a 270 and a 300 win that have taken elk and a virgin 308 and a good shooting 338 win . This is a new mexico ranch hunt and I like the big night force scope on it. Just wandering about the barnes ball on elk?
well your accuracy is very nice! and that round certainly has enough power/energy! they don't say specifically on their website if these are good for elk so i'd give them a call or email barnes and ask.
Are you talking about the LRX from Barnes? They'll kill anything on the planet. I can't believe you would question the effectiveness of any Barnes hunting bullet. I've heard far more horror stories from guys shooting Bergers than I've ever heard from Barnes users. They're lethal, and LRX are what I'm shooting out of my 280AI this year.
