LF someone just to get in on the guide draw for the 2-day minimum. I want to do it all DIY so I just need real minimum service/effort lol. Can meet up and go over maps and questions, don't even need to go out in the field. Whatever is the easiest/cheapest way to fulfill the requirement.

I know a couple outfitters that charge about $700 but looking for somewhat cheaper considering I really don't need anything at all..

Please PM me if you know of anyone.. Thanks in advance!

I didn't draw Wyoming so your idea interests me,

I'm like you I couldn't let myself pay much for the 4% gain in odds that the outfitter pool would give you.

I might be wrong but didn't NM change this loophole with outfitters, to where now the must accompany the hunter in the field

I don't know NM the best, maybe someone can chime in.

To use the outfitter number they have to accompany you for the minimum of 2 days. Most call this semi-guided on their websites and only offer it on public. I think you are looking at more like $1000-$1500 for what you want these days.

Kiowa and San Juan are two that I know do this. Never used them, though.

For the money, it might be better to try find a unit wide landowner tag.

I believe there is a minimum time they have to meet with you each day and it doesn't have to be in the field. I remember my friend telling me when he did it a few years back he met the guy twice for lunch and went over maps. Exact rules may have changed since then..

I know these guys do it for $850 each if you have 2 people, but they also offer full service over those 2 days

Elk Hunts - 505 Outfitters

I had another outfitter bookmarked that was in the $700-$750 range but I just reinstalled some things and lost them.. I remember they started with a "J" lol..

language from NM:

A “New Mexico Outfitter” shall ensure that each hunter-client who obtains a license through the 10% special drawing pool is accompanied by the outfitter or their registered guide for at least two days during the contracted dates of the hunt in the area where the hunter-client’s license is valid. Accompanied shall mean that the outfitter or their registered guide physically escorts the hunter-client in the field during the hunter-client’s license hunt dates.

Davsco is on it.
I am a hunter that used the NM outfitter loophole to hunt DIY. It has now been changed in the law that you must be fully guided, two full days. I specifically ask if there was any way a guide would glass with me, call it good, and let me be on my way. This is now prohibited in NM. No more outfitter tags in NM for me.....

This is a good thing. The min 2 days of guiding is reasonable but people abusing it for a DIY hunts and guides doing nothing will shut this down for everyone.

The outfitter association tried to not even allow the min 2 days of guiding this year. Hopefully this doesn't get abused and the G&F cracks down on those that are abusing this option before it gets killed for everyone.

Why is this a good thing? So you think those who can afford a fully outfitted hunt are entitled to more tags and better draw odds than the average Joe??

The outfitter allocation is complete BS and I thought it was great that people found a way around it.

I don't agree with the outfitters getting 10% of the tags. I didn't like the change when it happened just like I don't agree with WY forcing you to use an outfitter to hunt wilderness.

But if that is the rules then they need to stick with them or do away with them. I don't agree with having a rule and then not enforcing it. From what I've read I think its BS an outfitter charging someone $700 to use their license number and doing nothing guiding wise.

There shouldnt even we an outfitter welfare pool to begin with. But since there is the need to make it so your guided whenever your hunting that tag. fair is fair.

The outfitters are pissed off because everyone and their brother became one to take advantage of the Outfitter Pool of tags. If you ask me, they made their bed, they should have to sleep in it. The handout was good enough for them, but not for others who were breaking no laws and taking advantage of the same welfare that they were.

Exactly! The whole damn thing is corrupt.
