Unit 55 Idaho

I have heard unit 55 is good for mule deer but I was wondering if any of you have any experience elk hunting here? I want to hunt somewhere, where you can kill elk but there will not be 1000 people. I am NOT looking for a honey hole, just someone with some experience that doesn't mind sharing what they think. Thank you.

Have only hunted deer here, wasnt in "elk country" by any means and still saw some elk. Fwiw, we saw lots of bulls getting a ride in the back of trucks so they're there.
But... plenty of hunters
Lots of roads etc
I think there's something like 15000 elk tags

Unit 55 is a controlled hunt, with only 30 tags, with 3% draw odds in 2017,and yes there are BIG bulls there!!

There definitely won't be 1000 people with only 30 tags. Draw odds are poor, almost impossible for NR. Big bulls, but only small areas where the elk live. Good luck.

Saw some good bulls there last year but with my luck, I'll never draw a tag.
Draw is already over for this year. Results should be out in two weeks.

Most of the elk in 55 are on private land

I've seen some dandy bulls in there. Almost all of them on private. Close to public, but close doesn't count in that situation.
