Is this an okay bedding job?

Got this back from a gunsmith a couple months ago and didn't look at it till now. Is this an acceptable bedding job from a gunsmith? It seems sloppy and patchy..

I don't think I would be very pleased with that job and would take it to another fellow and get it fixed. Might as well shoot it first though you never know!

That's a terrible bedding job! Looks like he didn't even clean anything up either. I'm curious how the recoil lug even fits in the inlet!!
Did he install those pillars also? I would definitely recommend a new bedding job. I'd also want a refund.
I assume that's a Rem700. You can bed it yourself very easily and wayyy better than that.
I see you're from WI. I'd highly recommend Lee Christianson in Baldwin. Very good work!

That is horrible even if it was free. It needs redone. I would not even waste ammo until that is fixed.

I'm in Green Bay, WI. I had 2 custom muzzleloaders built on 700ml actions, 1 for me and 1 for my dad. This was at Badger Gun Sales, and the only thing I had done there is the bedding. I'm afraid to take the barrel off my dad's to see what his looks like..

Definitely don't go back. I edited my post of a great gunsmith in WI. Just curious how much is a bedding job from them?

I guess my dad's is even worse. They had to open both stocks up also and of course they even managed to screw that up on mine there's a 1/4" gap between the barrel and stock at the end on one side and 1/16" gap on the other side. It took them almost 2 months and they said it should only take 2 weeks. 300$ and I supplied the bedding compound Brownells acraglass. I should've just done it myself like I had planned...

Looks like a small dog vomited in the stock and he bolted her down.

Sorry if you payed for that, that is rough as.
I just did my first bedding job this year and this makes me feel much better.
Ask for you money back and send it elsewhere or DIY

The barrel channel being off is easily fixed also. Are those Boyd's stocks by chance? Their inletting usually needs some TLC anyway.

Def go get your money back!! Social media is your friend if they try to give you a hard time.

Then find a good smith who doesn't mind fixing other's work. Honestly it isn't a tough process to do yourself and you'll get better results than what he did!

Looks like you just bought an amatures' gun cheap because it doesn't shoot and you know that with a good bedding job, you can get it to shoot. Get your money back and learn how to do it yourself.
Even a novice should be able to do a better job than that. I find that Acraglass is easy to work with.

Person must have worked for Winchester at the end of the New Haven days. Looks like the factory bedding job they did on the M70 Classic, a dollop of hot glue in the recoil lug area and screw together.

That’s a slop job and not something a gunsmith should be turning out.

That said, all a bedding job needs to do is create a consistent point of contact between the action and stock. You might as well try it out. In my early DIY days, I turned out some ugly bedding jobs, usually by underestimating the amount of compounded needed to fill up the gaps. The guns shot fine though.

That's awful. There's no way any "smith" half competent could think that was an even remotely acceptable bedding job. They need to refund your money.

Watch a couple of youtube videos, roll up your sleeves and get to work. It's like paying someone to field dress your deer for you, seriously.
