Last year hunted with 140 AMAX. Am considering buying some 130 or 140 VLD's from copper creek. Used for mule deer only 6.5cm out of a 20" 1-8 twist barrel.

140 Hybrid or 147 eldx, 143 ELDM would be a other good options. Not a big fan of the VLD bullets. They don't fragment enough. There are plenty of Pencil hole horror stories.

Bout the fastest i could get the 130s out of a 20" tube was 2700 fps... which was the velocity i was looking for, so i stuck with the 130 vld hunters. Yhe 143 eldx factory were about 75-100 fps slower.

And there are plenty of success stories. The 140's fragment just fine for our group and we have never had any issues.

I use 130VLDs out of my 6.5x47Lapua heavy target rifle and 135 Elite hunters out of my Creedmoor lightweight hunting rifle. Personally the benefits of the 140s and up don't materialize until after ranges that I will most likely never be shooting. But that's just me. The wind bucking advantage of the heavier bullet is almost none until after 1100. But the drop is less with the 130 out to 1500(farthest I generated a chart for). And the wind difference at 10mph full value is just inches at over 1000 yards between the 130s and 140s. At 1000 the 130 has 20 less inches of drop than the 140. Its really picking the fly shit out of the pepper between the two but I use the 130VLDs. With your shorter barrel I would probably opt for 130s.
