Putting together a fly weight, meat getter rifle. The antithesis to my artillery piece with a Hubble.

Be nice to subtend 400 yard shots with a reticle. 300 and less will be the norm.

Weight is important but holding zero is the most important.

Vx2 2-7x33 with the lr duplex reticle seems to be the logical choice.

Too heavy. I'd rock a swfa 3-9 or nxs 2.5-10 if I'm almost to 1 pound anyways

Personally, I use a Leupold VX3i 4.5-14x40 with a regular duplex and no CDS. I also use a Leupold VX3i 3.5-10x40 with regular duplex and no CDS.

Leupold fx-4. You will be amazed how little magnification you need to make good hits at those ranges. Plus you don't have the complexity of a zoom.

4x.

wish I could love it. I need more at 350 yards if I'm trying to hit 6" vitals.

Leupold VX3i 3.5 x 10 x 40mm (although you don't give up anything to go with a 4.5 x 14 x 40mm)

send it in for a wide duplex - zero it for 300-350 and go hunting - EASY holdover to 550 yds with '06 / 180 Accubond

I play with other stuff but when I'm cow hunting for the year's meat the T3 '06 AI shooting 180's is what I take

Swarovski z3 3-9x36 is your answer

No holdover reticle in 3-9

Been looking at the first gen bushnell elite tactical 1-6.5 with the br2 reticle. 18oz or so. Can't decide sfp or ffp. Seems like sfp is better on that model being that it'll be daylight bright at 1x

VX3i 3.5 x 10 x 40mm - send it into the custom shop with your load data/ballistics and have them do a holdover reticle for YOUR gun ($65 last I had one done) - there is no "logical" reason to not either shoot on 3.5x or 10x - that said, there is no reason I can think of that a 300 yard zero and shots out to 500 +/- even need anything other than a wide duplex unless you're shooting predators at those ranges or PD's
I've been shooting an '06 & 180 Accubonds for several seasons (7 elk, 6 antelope) and have made slam dunk shots to 540 yds with that scope/reticle

I have a lightweight 308 with Leupold VX2 3-9 x50, Duplex reticle in Talley 1pc lightweight mounts. This after having a Swarovski z3 4-12 x50 and Vortex Razor HD LH 3-15 x42 on said rifle.

I had almost given up on getting that gun to feel/shoot right for me, then I swapped my relatively simple and inexpensive Leupold on there and am happy as a clam at high tide. The length of the skinny portion of the reticle post is 3.1 inches at 100 yards (according to Leupold). My gun is zeroed at 100 yards and I've been making great hits out to 400 yards with this setup. Yet again I've learned that sometimes less is more.

Sometimes I find myself thinking if I just had this reticle or that adjustment life = better. No, not this gun. Light weight, super simple and accurate, it's what I really want/need. Hunting in the mountains or at the coast range I'm set.

The Leupold vx2 lineup with 1in tube and 50mm objective has great options, especially in the 3-9 or 3.5-10 range for an all around rough use meat getter.

300 yard zero won't cut it

Talley lightweights may be fine for most but I hunt hard.

I called larue and the guy pulled a set out for me and weighed the lt 719 rings. Just over 2 oz for the pair.

I don't mean to suggest that talley lightweights absolutely suck. They have held zero on my tikka great, i think they work better on flat top receivers a lot better then round actions.

I bed all my talleys to the receiver. Have you checked out the Hawkins ring/base? They are awesome and fit amazing. Well worth a look.

If you're worried about durability and you are already looking at 18oz scopes- why not just go with a NF 2.5-10x or SWFA SS at 19 and 20oz respectively?
