Switching Savage bolt head 223 to magnum bolt face.

Does anyone know if I can switch the bolt head on a Savage short action from a 223 size bolt head to a magnum bolt face? I'm looking to use a Savage 223 bolt action as a donor action for a 7 SAUM build.

It can be done, but there are a few variables such as correct bolt head baffle(there are different lengths), large or small firing pin(not sure if you will need to change or not) and the magnum bolt head ejector that you need to get right. Youd save money selling the action and buying a magnum IMO

I switched my 300 wm bolt head to a 30-06 bolt head no problem. Took about 5min and that's from never doing it before. As soon as I get around to selling my old bolt head it will of cost me $0. You also can trade bolt heads on savage shooter or lrh forum to just be out shopping. Like said above just got to make sure you are getting correct one.
