I thought from the SW description that my new Tikka Superlite 22-250 would be in the low5 pound range. On my scale with out rings or sling swivels and just an empty magazine it weighs 6 lb 1 oz. I don’t think that plastic magazine weighs a pound.

I checked the the scale and a 5 lb weight weighs in at 5 lbs 0.1 oz and a nickel weighs 5 grams. That’s about right in my book. I don’t get where the advertised weight comes from. Maybe no bolt?

Hmm, not sure what you saw. I just checked and it says "5.9 lbs - 6 lbs." Yours comes in a tad over that but that's about on par for what the Superlites weigh in at.

Here is mine with Talley rings and a few other mods including a bolt fluting, aftermarket bolt handle, stock dip, metal bolt shroud, recoil pad. 6lbs 3oz

I should note that this is a T3 Superlite from a few years ago. Not the newer T3x

I've never heard of a superlite weighing "in the low 5lb range" ? I can't count how many superlites I've had but it's a bunch, the average variance is around 4 oz I think, the differences mostly come from the stock - I keep fading into and out of the ultralight club but in all honesty the Tikka superlite falls as close to an all around sweet spot for weight as any of them - throw in great balance, almost legendary out of the box accuracy and affordability and they make a pretty nice rifle

I don't own one but the numbers I've seen have all been in the high 5lb range. Also, that 22cal bore has more metal in it than say a 308 and thus a bit more weight.

Brad, what is your thought on that handle? I have always been anti longer than factory handles and then I put one on my son's savage lightweight hunter (he was having touble getting enough knob/handle with his small hands) and I like what it does. That and the tikka titanium handle shaves some weight (and is pretty traditional in look).

That was my first thought. I'm sure they took an average of a bunch to get the spec weight. The low end is for 22" and the high end would be for 24". I'm sure the .22 cal barrel is about as heavy as they make comparatively. I'm sure the .30 cal shaves a few ounces. Based on Lilja's barrel weight estimator, changing a 22.4" SS barrel from .308 to .223 shaves right at 3.5 oz. Doing the same for a 24.4" barrel shaves right at 3.8 oz.

They do have a misprint on the T3 SL. that has been discontinued either way. The T3X is listed correctly.

Is low 5lb vs 6lbs that big of a deal? As others have stated it could be a misprint or the 22cal barrel.

Okay I get it now. If you just look at the Superlite T3 and don't pay attention to the T3x you get the old Superlite T3 which weighs in at 5.2 rather than the new at 5.9, so we gained 7 oz somehow. That few ounces is close to adding the weight of a 2-7 scope on the gun. Thanks for the schooling.

Wow this raises some questions. I talked to the manager right before my wife stopped by the store and he said he would set the gun aside for her. When she shows up the the counter guy takes a gun off the rack and tried to charge my wife more at the counter when she picked up the gun then what I was told over the phone.. She stuck to the old Superlite T3 price. I'll bet counter guy was confused too. While she is making the purchase the manager walks by and addresses my wife by name because of the phone call. Of course she doesn't know what the heck is going on and why prices are going up and total strangers know her name. I guess that also explains why I didn't get rings with the gun. I wonder if I ripped the store off and should be returning the T3x gun? Damn 3 1/2 hour drive away.

Well, I don't think the T3 Superlite was 5.2lbs either. The smaller calibers did have a shorter barrel but I don't think it was ~11oz of weight savings. My guess is that it was just a misprint in their listing. If you look at that link, they have the correct weight for the 300WM but the 7mm is still listed at 5.2lbs. I'm pretty sure the 7mm has the same barrel length and should weigh the same as the 300WM

Probably a typo... 6.2+ is more reasonable for the magnum actions. A lot more metal in the action as well as the barrel

A Tikka action is a Tikka action(given the same model i.e. T3/T3x), no difference between magnum or not other than bolt face. My 6.5 CM weighs 6lbs 3 oz. but it has a 24" barrel vs the 22" advertised.

My Tikka Custom Lite in 6.5 Creedmoor Just showed up. I am very happy with how it turned out. Weighs 5lb 11oz.

Still thinking about a Wildcat composite stock. That would shave another 9 oz. give or take. Might shoot it a bit and then decide if I want to go down that rabbit hole.
