Velocity variation?

So I bought a chronograph and went to the range today with my 7mm-08. My variation was 50fps. Is this good or bad with factory ammo?

Also, how far away do you put your chronograph? I put mine at 10ft.

For normal hunting an ES of 50 fps isn't great but it's passable. When I work up a load for my rifles any SD over 15 is a no go, single digits is the goal. 10 ft is good.
