how well does the 270 caliber work for elk?
was curious to see your alls opinions on it and bullet weights. I know there are other calibers that would be better but this is what I have now.
I do reload so that will help.
was thinking of loading it with either 150 Grain Nosler Partitions or 140 grain Nosler Accubond bullets or the 150 grain Combined Technologies bullets
what are your alls opinions

It will work fine. Just put it where it needs to go and you'll be packing an elk out. I have shot quite a few with a .270 Win and a .270 WSM. Bullet weights from 140 - 170. They all work fine.

Either of those 2 Nosler bullets will work great on Elk, shoot em through the ribs and you're done!

Like greased lightening. If you're worried about penetration go with a monometal. I would bet on pass throughs with a TTSX. Not that it's needed, the Ole 270 has plenty of juice to kill elk with a Corelokt.

270WSM is my go to hunting rifle. I've taken a Shiras bull moose, 4 bull elk, 3 cow elk, a handful of mule deer, whitetails and antelope all with the 140gr Nosler Accubonds with zero problems from 50yds-600yds. Coming from a 30-06 and 300RUM as my go do big game guns I was a little worried about being "under gunned" but those concerns were resolved quickly... I'm a firm believer in the accubonds, they flat put critters in the dirt.

For years my go to hunting rifle was a 270 WBY and it performed more than adequately on numerous whitetail, mule deer, elk and moose. Both bullets mentioned, 150 gr NPT and 140 Accubonds have performed great on animals out to 560 yards from that rifle.

I have killed a few bull elk, with the 270wsm in tikka t3 with 140 accubond . From ranges 20-450yards. It's my go to hunting rifle.

I've killed 11 elk with 140 grain acubonds. 9 DRT. 2 took a 2nd round. I've recovered every single elk I've shot with 140 grn accubonds. 270 is gtg for elk.

My dad has used his .270 for elk his entire life without issue. Currently uses 150gr Remington Corelokt without issue. Only issue we've ever seen is that he hit a cow too cleanly once with a severe quartering-to almost a frontal shot and it didn't bleed at all. 2-3 feet of snow everywhere and not a drop of blood. It died within 50 yards with the first blood starting withing 3 yards of where it died.

My brother has used a .270 for moose. A couple bulls and a couple cows have been a non-issue. I would not hesitate to use it for elk.

Both, Partitions or, AB's will, "work", fine in the .270's ! Me and my Family have shot a lot of Game with the 150 Part in 30-06 ! But I chose to go with, the 140 Accubonds (for Hunting) and will practice, a ton with, 140 Ballistic Tip's, since they are cheaper. I feel the higher BC and "accuracy" of the AB, is nice, for a bit longer range with my .270 WSM and should be good, to 600 or so, IF, necessary ! Both, 59 and 60 Grains of IMR 7828 at 2.865 COAL, WLRMag Pr., with the 140 Bal Tip ( 60 grs was NOT, Max for my Rifle as, Nosler Data for this, load, seems light, at 2950 FPS), The loads shot easily UNDER, MOA @ 100 in my new, Tikka T3 stainless Lite rifle, using a 3x9 Burris at 9x. Groups could shrink, IF using my 4.5X14 but, this is a "Walking/ Stalking" Dark Timber to open Sage, Rifle ( AKA,.."Hunting" NOT, "shooting", at extreme LR ).
