Hi: As hunting seasons are nearing their end for me I'm turning my attention towards some load development projects. I presently have the lead sled but I'd like to go to a front bench rest style rest. Looking for something solid that holds the rifle steady. Price is optional as I won't cut cost as I want one that works. Any suggestions that work well for you? Suggestions for rear bag also. Thanks

I haven't used a lead sled in years. I messes with my LOP and is uncomfortable to get behind the rifle as I normally would. Rather I work up loads much like I would shoot in the field. With a bipod and a rear bag. I find that to be extremely stable for me. In fact I am giving my lead sled away after tripping over it the last 5 years in my garage.

Something like this....

Bipod and rear bag here, lead sled has also been reduced to a tripping hazard.

I switched from the lead sled to the Caldwell X bag and really like it. You can use a piece of that grippy material for lining your kitchen drawer and sandwich you fore end down in there to reduce recoil.
