Anyone have any experience with these and can offer any info?

great boot for the money, these boots will not give years of hard use but will are a good boot. I have two pair of Meindles not near as tough as a scarpa or some other heavier boot that is designed for more severe use.

never owned a pair but in my nearly 5 years of fulltime volunteering for ODFW hatcheries I could not tell you how many I've seen on feet working next to or around me - never heard one negative thing about the quality or comfort - that goes for any Meindl boots from Cabela's

I have been trying on boots like crazy lately and so far these were the most comfortable for me.

I'm curious about the not getting years of use out of them comment? Why is that?

I just looked at them on Cabelas site, stock # IK-818703. They have a "Lifetime Guarantee". Not sure if that means the sole, or waterproofness? Reviews are good, one negative review complained of leaking boots. I would say buy them with confidence, and return under the "Lifetime Guarantee" if you don't like them. They look a lot like the Kenetrek Mountain Extreme, or the Kenetrek looks a lot like them. Not sure which one came first.

I've looked with interest at that specific boot but haven't decided to pull the trigger. I even called Cabelas for a specialist to talk about it. No one could give me any insight on it. I've currently got several boots working for me (one pair of Meindle in the rotation), however, this looks like a very nice stiff durable boot. I might give it a try this coming year.

Tiger rag,
I've got a question into a cabelas rep to about the boots too. I'm trying to find out what the midsole is? EVA or PU? Or a mix?

I have the Kenetrek Mountain extreme now and I can say these Meindl are almost as stiff. The Western Guides have that breathable liner that is comfortable but not as supportive as the Kenetrek. Just depends on what you need I think. That's my impression so far.

One guy will get a year from his boots while the next will be able to wear the same boot for 2 - A person's feet compared to the next person's is like comparing apples to walnuts - It's said time and time again in discussions about optics and "eyes" but if you multiply that by 5 that's roughly where you'd be with footwear - Parts of our bodies change throughout our lives, some's more than others' - When I began hunting at around 20 y/o I wore an 8 1/2 E, now at 65 I wear an 11 E-EE - that's a pretty big swing but my feet tell me that's what they want .... and I listen - It's not about "how long can I wear these boots ?" but it should be about are my "dogs" gonna be happy during the time they're in these boots ??

I know this is an old thread and sorry I missed your question. I would guess it's a PU midsole but I don't have any inside information. I was looking on Cabelas today since I have some Cabelas bucks to burn and was surprised to see this boot is no longer available. I'm guessing it was too extreme for the general Cabelas hunter/shopper. It's kind of too bad as this model looked promising to me.

The Meindl's I've owned have been great boots! BUT, specifically on the Western Hunter, I would be careful of that "elastic band" that rides mid-achilles-tendon on that particular model. My brother-in-law bought a pair of those last season and we put a handful of miles on them in the elk woods.

About halfway through the day, he noticed a lot of discomfort back there from the elastic digging in pretty good... when we got back to the truck in the dark, and he took his boots off, his skin was so indented and irritated because of the constant pressure he returned them and got the Alaskan Hunters instead (Not apples to apples because the Alaskan's are 200 gm insulated)

Anyway, I only caution to watch for that... I'm not quite sure what function that elastic is supposed to accomplish, but it got the best of my brother-in-law for sure!

I wish I had pictures of the indent... his skin was easily 1/4" sunk in all around his tendon!

I had read in some of there reviews of this boot, that many people said the same thing. Some who kept their boots made reference to cutting the elastic wrap on the back, problem fixed.

That definitely crossed our minds as a viable option, but with Cabelas return policy being so solid, he just opted to swap them out! In his words, the rest of the boot was solid, and very comfortable... if not for that band they would have been 10/10 boots.
