Figured I'd kick this season off with the 2017 Turkey meatpole. If there is already a thread going, my apologies.

Nebraska, opening weekend. First bird with my recurve!

I had to watch my 2 buddies take 5 birds in the first 5 days of the season. it was brutal but I finally got a chance to hunt Saturday and scratched out a nice Tom at 16:00 after 9 hrs in the Dbl Bull. Tom #1, 2017.jpg

Very nice! Good luck on your Nebraska hunt! I have not hunted turkey in that part of the state. Mine was southeast Neb.

Got this one this morning in Mississippi. Gobbled good, strutted in with his hen in tow, back at the truck by 8 am. Great hunt, best spurs I've ever gotten at 1 1/4. 9 3/4 beard.

Here's a Colorado Merriam' s from last Sunday. Missed opening day and stayed in bed Sunday until 7:30 with back issues so I wasn't expecting much. Hiked 1.5mi into a restricted motorized access area and he gobbled over the top of my yelps on my third or fourth location attempt. He was dead less than 2 min later. I must be in the good karma zone.

It took a couple tries to get him on the Exo without taking the bag off but got it figured out.

I've been saving smoked dark meat from the last 2 years and put it all in the crock pot Tuesday for turkey carnitas. Killer good!

Very Nice! Man that makes me hungry! Hunting turkeys is one of those things where I don't feel too bad if I sleep in and get out there late. Tons of birds are killed between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM. Often times I have better luck then anyway as hens are often on the nest and toms are roaming.

Great job with the Trad bow! Did you use a blind or natural setup? I got my first one from a blind but trying for my next one with a natural setup. Missed one last weekend at about 18 yards trying for a head shot with a guillotine broadhead.

Thanks! No blind 8-10 yards from the decoys. ASAT leafy top and balaclava, the suit hides the shaking going on underneath it. For me the key is picking the right time to draw, and of course being lucky. This bird never got more than 1/4 strut, I was convinced I needed them to be full strut and head hidden by fan. I think he was so into the decoy that he was oblivious to me. I wish more guys would slow down and let these birds come in to the decoys, their behavior fascinates me and they make me laugh every time.

Looks like Tapatalk thought I needed a new profile for Rokslide...

Anyway, thanks for the accolades and the carnitas was BOMB.COM! I gotta write the recipe down but it's the perfect use for those tough drumsticks and wings and I even threw the thighs in.

Can't agree with this more. It is difficult to not be amused watching them come in. Had one at 6yards last year just pissed off at my Jake decoy.
