Thanks for the post. I never worry about my rifle getting wet. This year though I'm going on a muzzy hunt and would hate to have a misfire do to getting the powder wet.

I have one with a similar design (the Caldwell version, $20 or so on Amazon), I just wouldn't trust it with my rifle on my pack in the rain. The bottom metal is all exposed. Water would easily get in the mag well/trigger.

Rifles get wet, i've had mine wet multiple times. In general a little water isn't going to hurt your rifle if its maintained correctly. I've had my bolt frozen shut a few times as well. I don't carry my rifle on my pack as it does no good there, only thing a traditional sling is good for is taking a pee. Before I purchased the Gun Bearer my rifle was on a custom 2 point sling across my front. I have no problem with the Gun Slicker but then again I want the rifle in my hands and fast access, guess it doesn't matter if its on the pack.
