I’ve got a bit of a thing for hunting knives /grin. I’m sure some of you can relate so I figured I post this in case anybody was interested.
I just finished a neat knife project. I found some pretty cool super steel blanks that Spiderco-sells they call them mules. They sell for about 60 to 80 bucks depending on the steel. They only do limited runs of these so you have to kind of pay attention when they come up.

So I bought a couple of them one in PMA 11, a high speed tool steel comparable to Maxamet. The other was S 20 V steel. I’ve been doing some comparisons on some of these super steels and as most of you know they make incredible game processing knives.

I have that bench made steep country S30 V knife and it’s a good one. Side-by-side with the S 20V it’s pretty close. Next to the PMA 11 the PMA is much harder...about like an S90v blade. A tad harder to sharpen too but a Gatco diamond system makes them all scary sharp.

I had a chunk of walnut laying around so I figured I’d use that. I ripped down some quarter inch thick strips. I didn’t want the pins to show so I kind of did the project backwards. I probably wouldn’t About the pins if I did another one

I don’t really have the right tools for a project like this. I can build a house no problen.....much easier than I can sand a sliver of wood to shape. So I improvised

Anyway the final product- a left handed processing knife that fits my hand.

This should be a little better photo. 7 3/4" long total with a 3 1/2" blade. Weighs about the same as my Steep Country and it wont snag my latex gloves like the SC does. Of course it fits my hand better...the SC is a tad short in the handle for me.

I think I will mold a little kydex scabbard for it and give it a go in the field. I sealed the crap out of it with Spar Urethane...so it should take the blood and crud....we shall see.

I really dont know if Spyderco is making anything in this PMA 11, i know you can get a folder in Maxamet.
