Hi Sliders! Following are some gear lists from a handful of the Rok staff. We hope this helps aid in your own packing lists, and if you have questions feel free to post them up and we'll answer as best as we can! Some list weights are going to vary depending exactly what the hunter weighed, but what wasn't weighed is specified right before the weight given.

Thanks for posting this Jordan.

On my list, remember that's my master list, and not all those items go on every hunt. I just print it off my computer, throw it on the clipboard and cross off what doesn't need to go before I start packing for a particular trip

My favorite moment was opening Robby's list and the first thing I saw was mouse traps... then I saw he was horse backing. Still had to laugh!

The first time you have a mouse run across your face at night in a heated wall tent, they seem like a very negotiable weight!! We usually take 4-6 of the plastic tomcat ones when going in on horse back. We got mice in every one the first few nights last year early elk hunting. I assume we would have kept a high success rate the entire trip, but we came back to camp day 3 to find them all gone. We spent a few minutes wondering how the hell that happened, then we saw a pine martin carrying the last one up a tall spruce tree, mouse and all! LMAO

Travis, do you come out of the woods with a bunch of squares cut out of your t-shirts or what?

A bear craps in the woods, but not Travis Bertrand...

Sorry, just couldn't help but laugh at the lack of TP on your list man!

There's a video somewhere on my blog about catching mice in my SO tipi

Full disclosure, my trip is being cut half a day shorter than planned when I went over my list so I'll only be there 9.5 days instead of 10 this year.

I hope everyone has had a great season, and hopefully there's still some late season tag holders on here! I'm starting to wrap up my mountain hunting for the fall and thought I would update some additons/subtractions on my gear list!

PACK - As many know I started using the Kifaru Fulcrum bag instead of the Reckoning for my backcountry hunts. After changing to it I prefer it for the backcountry, with the main reason being able to compress the main bag down with meat/gear and still being able to access the wing pockets without decompressing the main load and without compressing and crushing what's in the wing pockets. I still love that Reckoning and have been using it on all of our horseback hunts and day hunts where we would hopefully be hauling meat.

SLEEP SYSTEM - I got along very very well with my Megatarp (and will be doing a review on the floorless setup soon). An addition I made in October for the tarp is the 18" Cylinder stove, and wow I cannot recommend that enough! Being able to fire that thing up to get some warmth going in the evenings and mornings has a ton of value, and at 1lb 9oz it's going to be hard pulling it out of my pack. Other than that my sleep system is fairly nailed down.

OPTICS/TRIPOD - I did end up upgrading tripod legs right before season started to the Outdoorsmans Medium and I don't have any complaints or regrets on that. I do still like those Slik legs a lot but I do prefer the lever locks on the Outdoorsmans. I also ended up bringing the Cabela's Euro HD 15x56 binoculars with me this season, and for mule deer hunting I don't mind carrying the extra weight along with the spotting scope to be able to glass with 15's.

ELECTRONICS - All good in the electronics department. An addition that I just made is my watch... I picked up a Suunto Traverse Alpha, and while I had some reservations of being user friendly, I'm really impressed with it so far!

CLOTHING - All was well in the clothing department as well.. no major changes but one big addition especially for late season. The First Lite Uncompahgre puffy pants will most likely never come out of my pack from the middle of September onward. You don't realize how much heat you lose off of your legs until you put them on. I HATE wearing my merino bottoms in the mountains most days because they're too hot while I'm on the move, but once I sit down and glass they just don't have enough to them to keep comfortable, so those puffy pants are a must! The second thing is the Kifaru Lost Park Parka... I absolutely love that thing and for the most part from October onward it will be my go to puffy.. but for typical September temps it's just too much, so I go to the Uncompahgre jacket from First Lite in those conditions.

BROADHEADS - I did a last minute change up to my broadhead choice as well. I stuck with Grim Reaper, but just rocked the Hades fixed 3 blade heads. At 65 yards that broadhead and Black Eagle Deep Impact shafts with outserts punched through both shoulder blades of my mule deer and while the tip edge looked a little chizzled, the rest of the broadhead was totally intact and hardly looked used. Very happy with that set up!

All in all I didn't have any gear issues. Very happy with how the fall has turned out so far!

Hey everyone... we're getting ready to give this thread a reboot with our 2018 gear lists. We're also debating putting another list up with what our food is going to be... is that of interest to anyone?
