Once they developed a "us vs. them" mentality then they ceased to have rational thinking. If your trying to make it on 450 acres then you have very little room for error, so that just added to their cabin fever hysteria of having to do something now.
That's too bad, because they decided to do the worst thing for everyone involved. The eagles didn't even benefit because now they waste energy to check a place that was easy food once.
Sounds like they were good even when they pulled the trigger and the elk hit the ground. They could have done the lawful thing and field dressed it. You can't tell me that they ever go to town and couldn't take an elk or two with them. An hour tops of field dressing would have saved countless headaches. Too bad because everyone loses.
