I don't bother with a long spoon, takes two seconds with a knife to trim off the top half of a MH package to be able to access with a normal length spork.

One thing that worked well for me last year was to make an insulated pouch of out an insulated Amazon food bag (similar to the stuff they make automotive windshield screens out of). With a little scissor work and duct tape, I had a pouch that I could drop my mountain house bag into that kept my meal nice and warm and helped with the "cook" time. With a metal binder clip I could roll and pinch the top off and let it sit while I took care of other camp chores.

BOOM!!! Here it is DIY Pot Cozy & Cook Pouch for the Trail - YouTube kind of long but I think this is what Yankees talking about. Does anyone use zip ties for emergencies. I used to bring them when I had an external frame backpack and thinking of taking a few.

I carry a half dozen zip ties, mostly for attaching tags, but I can't say I haven't fixed a zipper or two with 'em. They're one of those things that I always figure weigh nothing & if I ever need one, nothing else will probably do.
