Black Orvis Game bag smell?

I recently bought some Black Orvis game bags from Camofire.com When I opened them up I noticed that they had a smell. I would describe the smell as a petroleum based smell. The smell remains after washing them with scent free detergent.

Is this common or do I have an issue?

I'm assuming you meant the Black Ovis brand game bags? Mine came with the smell as well but it washed out after one wash with a scent free detergent. Since that didn't work for you maybe try airing them out in the sun for a day or two and see if that helps.

mine had the same smell when new, I washed them and they still smelled. I went ahead and used them last year on a bull and two bucks, after use and washing them with OXI Clean and tide the smell is gone. By the way I really like these bags, very durable and lightweight.

I machine washed mine and air dried, and the smell went away.

It seems to be normal for these bags. It took a good airing out for the smell to go away on mine even after washing.
