I took a X buddy to my hot spot in South Dakota. The next year I asked him if he wanted to go back, he said no, I'm already going. I said with who, he said 3 friends, I said where, he said my spot.

This comes up a lot it seems.

If I had logged the miles and done the work to find a good spot then took a friend there and they adopted it as their own, I might be a little peeved. Conversely if someone had taken me to "their" spot and I all of a sudden start using it for myself (putting them out) it would feel "wrong" to me.

It isn't that you or I or they "have rights" to the land or they have more ownership than anyone else, it is that spot was found to be a good spot through their efforts, experience, etc. and you're essentially taking their work/effort.

It's a personal code of ethics, just like everything else. If it feels wrong to you, it might be...
