2017 Wrap Up

Had another good season this year, ill keep it short and sweet and load it up with photos.

August started out with my dream trip, an alpine Sitka blacktail on Kodiak island. We were blessed with great weather and no bugs. Shortly after landing the float plane we had numerous bucks spotted and I slipped in on a very nice buck. Made a short stalk and bang he was down. Over the next 2 days 5 more bucks hit the dirt and we were on our way back to Kodiak! We fished for the remainder of our trip and had similar luck.

Next up was Montana elk. I had a very tough archery season this year with terrible weather and little rut activity. I only had what I would call 3 'good' days of hunting over 3 weeks. At the end of the month we finally had some good weather and I bombed into my spot. A few hours later I had a bull coming in on a string for a short 25 yard shot. After the bull was down my partner and I decided to pack him out in one trip, I don't suggest ever doing that.

On to general rifle season here in Montana. I took some friends out on opening day. Late in the day my buddy ryle had a good 6 point down. After that weather got real bad and we were snowed out of the mtns.
I did manage to get in a quick cow hunt with a friend to fill my B tag late in the season which is always fun.

Fast forward to the last weekend of the general season and a buddy and I made a bonsai trip to eastern Montana for a mule deer hunt. We had a great hunt with lots of bucks still chasing does. Then first evening my buddy had a 4 point down and by 10 am the next day I had my buck on the ground. And that was a wrap for 2017!

Its a super lite in 7 mag. B&C stock, fluted bolt, harrel brake. Shooting 168 berger classics at 2950 in one ragged hole.

How do you like the harrell? I'm at the tail end of almost the exact same build (blue'd so cerakoted, fluted the barrel to, same stock, etc...) and am looking to put a brake on it. Harrell's run cheaper than most other manufacturers.
