I am thinking of doing a public land hunt in one of these three states in a couple of years. Which state would you recommend for Elk. One of them or all of them.

I already have plans on going to Colorado next September. These other states would come afterwards.

Though there are spike and “Any Bull” units in UT, the any bull areas have very limited populations of elk. Not to say that decent bulls are killed every year out of some of these units, it would take a serious amount of scouting and work. Otherwise if you don’t have at least 8 points for elk, your chances of drawing a tag are slim.

Same basic reasoning with Nevada, except I don’t know if any OTC type option for elk (not to say there isn’t any, I just started building points in Nevada this year).

Montana would be your best bet. Lots of tags, general seasons, decent access. Only con for me would be the Grizzlies in some areas in the West.
