Roksliders, Robby has done what he's so good at and gotten us another great product to test. Les Welch and I will each be testing out some of the new ABM ammo in our 300 win mags. The ammo is loaded with my favorite 300 bullet, the Berger 215 Hybrid. Keep an eye here in the next couple weeks as we give this new ammo a rundown.

Is 300 all they make, or do they make up other calibers too?

I'd love to try some 6.5 Creedmoor if they make that round.

They make 260, 308, 300 win and 338 Lapua.

But I bet they will be adding rounds as they go.

I find it interesting that their calibers match the offerings of Peterson Cartridge. Wonder if that is what they are using for their brass.

Well I received the ammo this morning, and plan to get out this weekend for some testing. I will be testing this in a Christensen Arms Ridgeline and my custom Tikka. Here are few observations from the bench.

The brass is stamped ABM. (not sure who makes it)
The C.O.A.L. is approximately 3.615" which is slightly longer than SAMMI specification so you'll want to check your magazine length.
I measured the entire box to the ogive and found them all to be 2.846" +/- .0015"
The listed velocity is 2886 fps from a 26" barrel.
I talked to an ABM associate on the phone and was told they are using powder with a burn rate similar to Magpro to get maximum velocity.
The listed B.C. for the 215 Berger is .691 G1 and .354 G7.

Tikka magazine shown for size reference.

I plan to shoot groups with both rifles and will also chronograph both for comparison.

Toss the unneeded DMB and epoxy the follower in place. Would make a great single feed. That is all we really need. Mag boxes are over rated for real hunting.

Some friends and I went up in the mountains to do some shooting today and check out this ABM ammo. We shot it through two different 300's and had good results with both. Since I only had one box this test isn't the be all end all but it gave us enough to get an idea how this ammo will perform. We set up a paper target at 200 yds and shot like we would in an actual hunting situation (except the shooting mat!). First up, Paul shot a 3 shot group with Christensen Arms Ridgeline. His first group was right at 2" or one M.O.A.

Next it was my turn to see how my custom Tikka would like the ABM loads. I too shot a 3 shot group at 200 yards and was very happy with the results.

We shot a couple more groups out of each rifle with similar results.

I then shot a three shot group with each rifle through my chronograph to get an idea of the velocity and ES. The back of the box tells me to expect around 2886 fps with a 26" barrel. My Tikka wears a Hells Canyon Armory carbon barrel that is 25" long. My shots registered 2899, 2917, and 2904 fps with an average of 2906 and an ES of 18 fps. Next I shot three shots through the Ridgeline to measure speed in it's 26" carbon barrel. The readings on my MagnetoSpeed where 2906, 2908, and 2908 fps with and average of 2907 and an incredible ES of only 2 fps. You don't usually see this kind of consistancy from factory loads. The slogan for ABM ammo is "Mission Ready" and I would have full confidence taking this ammo out into the field and hunting with it, even at extended ranges.

"2 fps ES"

I can't say I've ever seen that. And looks like 1/2 MOA at 200 for your Tikka Justin?

Sounds very promising. Thanks Justin

Les Welch will be chiming in the next few weeks with his results, so that will be at least three guns to compare.

I was really impressed with the consistency. And you're right Robby, I was barely over .5 moa with my rifle.

We've shot a few hundred rounds of their ammo and it is certainly well done for off the shelf munitions.

I'm assuming that it's performing well since you've shot a few hundred rounds? What caliber and what have you been shooting it in?

Justin,
We had a chance to send several hundred rounds down range a couple weeks ago during a one day class at Bull Hill Training Ranch. Nemo Arms Tango 8 .308 with 175 gr Berger Match OTM tactical to 1000 and a custom 700 .300wm in Remington's RACS with the 230 Berger Hybrids making hits to a mile. Both rifles topped with Night Force Beasts with the H59 reticle.
