I thought I would post my most recent woodworking project. I came up with the design a couple of months ago and got to work right away. Two pedestals were built, one for me and one for a buddy. I hope that pics will post from my phone because my Photobucket must be full (they won't upload). Here is the drawing

Next I had to select the right trees for our pedestals. Once I did, mortises needed to be created to hold the broad head blades. Mine was to hold a couple euros and a pheasant, Matts is going to hold two full shoulder mounts

Then I had to make the blades for the broad head that will be at the base of the tree to look like it is hitting bullseye in the base (sticking into the annular rings)

Once I made all six blades for both trees, I laser engraved a design that took me almost a week to come up with.

Now I had to create a mortise in the base to receive the tree and blades

After that I needed to dry fit everything to make sure it was going fit

Once everything was a fit, I glued up and started the tops that were going to sit on top of the blades

I didn't like the look of my top so I decided to chemical stain the fur to match the base. Matts was walnut so it matched beautifully. Both of our pedestal tops were to have natural branches border them. Mine was to have a clear coat like the whole rest of it and the other was to stay natural because it was going to match its upper branch. Here they are in the spray booth ready for clear

For the clear I put 3 coats of shellac and two coats of varnish. After all the clear was applied I needed to add the natural branch border for Matts.

I can't wait to see what mounts he puts on this one.

Thanks for checking this post out. I have another one in mind for the rifle hunter! I'll be sure to post pics of it when I'm done with it.
