Good luck on the hunt. I have done similar hunts northeast of Boise and have rented SUVs from the airport and have had good success. As long as you would get one with 4x4 you should be in good shape. Just don't do something stupid. Not much can help any vehicle in snow on a slope. If you want any information on getting in and out of Boise airport let me know, done it several times.
