  • Hey Karl, That's great to hear! I'm going to work Beaver Creek and STueben Creek from the top of South Baldy. I might adjust now and work west toward the Soap. THanks for the info!

Hey, I just saw you posted that your going to be in 54 for elk soon. I was in 53 opening weekend and went up high above haystack mtn. It’s a long ways from anywhere but I did see elk on the 54 side in soap basin and smooth canyon. Spent time in multiple OTC units this weekend and it was slow. Hoping to be back in 53 later in the season. Good luck

Hey Karl, thanks for the info man. I'm heading out that way in a week to hunt elk and was planning on looking around a bit to see what I see. I'm looking forward to the 2nd season, but looking at CPW's site, it looks like there will be a lot of OTC hunters out that way for elk. My father-in-law possibly being one of them. So it will be an interesting hunt with me hunting muley and him hunting elk. I'll have to look for red mountain. Never ran across that one yet.

Thanks again for the info...I'll be sure to pass along what I see out there during archery.

Hey man, I have a 54 3rd season tag this year. I’ve been down a couple times to look around and seen a few smaller bucks. I messaged Jason carter a couple weeks ago and he said when they hunted it 3rd season they saw the biggest bucks on red mountain. He also said if you can find pockets or places a mile or so off the roads you definitely see more. I’d love to hear how you do and compare how the hunt is from 2nd to 3rd season. I also have friend tagging along with a cow elk tag so hopefully I can get that out of the way quick as he hasn’t hunted much and then focus on deer. Good luck
