Kodiak goats on a budget... ?

Your odds of drawing a goat tag in one of the draw areas (non road system) are around 40%-50% (6 applications at 8-9% chance per tag). I would say put in to draw and figure 1-3 years until you draw a tag. If you want to hunt this year or next then you will probably have to spend the extra cash.

24 Million Dollar Question.. Best place to live in Alaska for big game and river fishing.

What interests you the most? I mean Southeast would be a great place to fish and live. but you won't be hunting moose/Caribou/sheep. but you can hunt deer from August to December! and plenty of bear in the spring. plus salmon fishing that happens 12 months out of the year, Crab, halibut, shrimp...

There is a lot of time between now and next august to get certified. Heck they have certs in Fairbanks in early august. you could plan your trip around that. he comes up takes the class (online/field day) then you leave the next day.

    Dalton Highway archery caribou question

Yes, he will need a bow cert. all weapon restricted hunts (draw or OTC) need one.

    Alaska upland

I have seen 5 grouse in my past 2 outings looking for moose, so while the numbers are low, they are not zero. as for locations I would try any logging road and drive until you find some grouse then hunt there. If you want I could show you around a bit when you get here. I have an FMA cow tag...

    Fairbanks hotel recommendations for August

9/10 time The Turtle Club is great but I have been there when the Prime Rib is subpar., but the Truth is there isn't a restaurant in Fairbanks that I've been to regularly that always produces good food. For after hunt food recommendations I would say: * Turtle Club *Pump House *Lavelles *Big...

    Snow Caves

Use to do it all the time with the scouts, every year we we would go to Skagway and DOT would pile up snow and we'd dig snow caves into the berm. we got pretty good at it, even had a full on door that we would set up ( old closet door that we built a frame for out of 2X4s) its amazing how warm...

    onX hunt inaccurate property lines

Praxeus, you need to tell us what exactly is going on, are people using an established trail that crosses your property (undeveloped) to access public land? how do you know that the trail is on your property? do you have a survey. Right now I think the people crossing your property are in the...

    SE Alaska archery

I grew up hunting around Juneau (never with a bow though). I think your best bet is doing a lot of calling. Finding open spots (Muskegs and open woods) three long (2-6 seconds) Fawn Bleets and sit 10 minutes then do it again, sit another 10-20 minutes then move to the next stop. Hope that helps.

Here has been my experience: First year of marriage you are going to be pretty tied down. my wife and I's first big fight was when I had a buddy come up to Fairbanks for a few days and we fished pretty hard. My wife was upset because she didn't realize how much time I was going to spend...

    Seriously overwhelmed with picking transporter

I think First you need to pick an area (like hey I want to fly into Unit XXX, or I want to hunt Range XX) then start looking for transporters, if you search the Alaska outdoor forum you should be able to find good transporters for that area. you can also contact the site owner (Micheal Strahan)...

    Kuiu and First lite sizing

I normally wear a XL (in fact I think I own maybe 2 XXL shirts total and zero L ) I got a XXL, and it was just a tad to tight around the chest. I got the XXXL and it fits perfect around the chest but the arms are a tad long. I love the coat but I doubt I'll buy Kuiu in the future because of the...
