Hi folks. My buddy and I are looking for an outfitter in SE AK who will do a 2:1 Goat Hunt as NRs and possibly a DIY deer hunt just before or after in 2026 or 2027. We both have been lucky enough to hunt goats before and are looking for a fun experience, not necessarily a B&C goat.
Any...
Flying elk meat back is nearly as much an adventure as the hunt itself, particularly if you are by yourself.
Delta charges checked bags (50lbs) of $30 for first bag, $40, $150 and $200 for each after that...I check 150 lbs of meat...I then have put about 35 lbs of frozen meat in a dry bag in...
Another option is to wrap and ship back UPS with clothes. I measure/record tips to tips and cut skull in half.
Also, it probably depends on how much meat you are flying back. I normally check 3x50 lb bags of meat + gun and carry the rest in my pack and dry sack onto plane.
Have fun!
I am sorry for your loss. We nearly lost our youngest due to sudden cardiac arrest in March. She was saved by a good friend using CPR and with a shock from an AED. We are fortunate she has fully recovered.
With both my girls, we hunted deer locally without success. I always wanted to take them...
And, I should also add regarding my experiences with 2 return trips...UPS misplaced my gear but I received all of it about 3 weeks later....and last October, 150 lbs of meat and my rifle did not make the connecting flight and I had to wait 3 hours at my final destination before it showed up... :)
And, as previously mentioned, if you tag out late in your hunt, there is the challenge of getting it to the butcher in time to have it cut, wrapped and frozen for your return flight.
