Thanks guys. We were able to seat the ball and get the rod shard out and get the shot off. I just didn't have a proper cleaning rod. Acting on all your advice,I ended up with a 48 inch fiber glass driveway delineater and managed to get it cleaned right away.

My brother and I were shooting the Kentucky long rifle dad left us when my ham handed brother broke the ramrod.
Dad always taught us to clean our black powder rifles the day we shot them but I don't have a 42 inch rod now. I do have one on the way, but am worried about waiting. How corrosive...
I'm fine with this. Just seems to be another sign of the times. I'm not sure how shed hunting has blown up into such a " thing". I've heard of online groups and TV shows dedicated to it so I suppose that might have fueled it.

I have never tried one. Like others have posted, I back out and leave some flagging at dark:30.

I have Easton compact carbons. Collapse down to fit in the pack while hunting. Whatever you choose,I recommend lever locks over twist style poles. I have had nothing but trouble from the twist style
Just wondering what most guys wear for the challenge. Do some of you wear your actual elk hunting boots to safely carry the big pack ? Seems like they would be hard to run in during the individual challenge.
Conversely,it seems like wearing a mid boot or running shoe with the 50 pounder trying...
