Really? it equals or outperforms so many of the new stuff. It actually better today than it was 20 years ago. Recoil is tolerable , it has plenty of downrange power, cheap to handload for, works wellin a 22" barrel..I could continue
I also worked as an guide in the 80's and 90's and a little since.
Hunted Grizzly and Black Bear in the Spring, Elk, moose, sheep and goats in the fall.
Working for outfitter's ...it is a skinny living and had a trade to fill in the gaps.
The best job ever, but demanding physically.
The...
I am directly north of Eureka( and east)
Bulls are bugling here, I am at home and can here a couple outside of the house right now.
I will take a stroll as we have daylight this morning. Things have changed over the years and these herds move onto private land as the pressure increases...
I have quite alot of experience with BLR's.
I prefer the takedown, and found the rifle shoots more reliably with a LER/ scout scope. I can even bore sight the barrelled section.
The takedown is easier to clean, easier to carry( it will fit in my backpack)
With the scout scope setup, accuracy...
I don't know. Hunting and shooting have always been there.
I can immerse myself in Rodeo events, Saddlebronc, team and calf roping.
Good horses are a special interest to me also and have delved into farrier science.
I also must climb our mountains, into sheep and goat country. ZERO city stuff.
I am 63 and live and hunt the Rockies- literally from my land at times.
Quite a few wrecks horseback, pulling wrenches and subsequent surgeries to my upper body. This makes it difficult to carry a heavy load on my back.
I usually take couple of horses to get in and then the shanks pony to get...
Well.....I like to hunt, ride, handload and tinker. Should I not be here? I just don't buy into marketing....these are just city folks attempting to influence us.
Life is a simple thing..
.if you want it so
It is just marketing, nobody must have a Fury, Westerner etc.
Life these days have us being assaulted by all this new, useless information, imo.
Hunting is ridiculously simple for me, pick up an old , mountain beaten rifle, shoulder a pack and head up the mountain. The more simple things...
I don't really get this either.
The .270 WCF cannot be equalled and marketing people have been trying for nearly 100 years. It is just marketing.
I clock 3040 fps / 150 grain bullet/ 22" barrel....just go to the Alliant powders.
It might be interesting to fast twist the WCF, WSM or the...
Myself, I lost a decent pair of Steiner binoculars. I believe I put them on the wheel well of the horse trailer when I got back to the truck ( after dark) . I was pretty tired and when I am tired I will lose things. Bummer....just drove away.
Somebody has them now.
Our sheep country is Elk and Grizzly bear also. Bull Elk season runs concurrently.
Not a Creedmoor fan...I like to send the 150 Partitions at around 3000 fps these days. Good medicine, the .270 wcf.
I might of spoke out of turn a little.
I don't know the situation in Colorado.
This my personal opinion only, but I feel if we have to allow non resident hunters they should hire an Outfitter. BHA doesn't take a position on this...as far as I know.
I didn't read all the responses.
Here in B.C , out of province / out of country hunters must use a Class A Outfitter to hunt here.
It is a good system , residents aren't giving to much away and there are exceptions.
It might be purely selfish but I live where I hunt, I contribute to...
