I was thinking about the moving back up, I wonder if it's the severity of the storm system. I remember one year, I was backpacking in the Russian Wilderness and we had a storm roll in that dropped 12" of snow, it was the first real "winter" storm. If it's just a day or two of bad weather...
How much work are you willing to put in? The Alps can be nasty, if the route looks short, it's STEEP, if it's not steep it's LONG! But, it's one of my favorite places in the world.

As Yote said, the area holds a TON of bears. I backpacked the area for awhile before I started hunting and didn't think much of the bears, but once I started peaking through glass, it was shocking how many were cruising around. The Trinity Alps are a special place, maybe I'll bump into you up...

I have built a fermenter locker out of an old freezer. Your basically running a thermometer to a switch that cycles power to one of two outlets you wire up. On outlet has the freezer plugged in and another has a heater, we could keep the temp within 4 degrees F. Kind of a fun project but...
