Some people drawing good tags over and over again is exactly what randomness predicts will happen. If you get 10,000 people to flip a quarter 10 times, there will be people who flip heads 10x in a row, and tails 10x in a row. Not many of them, but they exist. And those people are the ones that...
Who loses if Meateater doesn't do business with these people? I'll tell you who - it's hunters.
Meateater is a very small share of these peoples' portfolio, they probably only think about it four times a year when they look at quarterly earnings. If you think they are sitting around rubbing...
Most parts of the state check the elk and upland birds box. Whether you are a rifle or archery hunter will dictate the availability of OTC tags. I would look at the Lewiston/Palouse area (good upland bird hunting, decent elk hunting), and then the central mountains like Salmon/Challis (decent...
There isn't anything a drift boat can do that a raft can't do. There are things a raft can do that a drift boat can't. So if true versatility is your #1, a raft makes sense.
That being said, a raft is more effort to row than a drift boat, is usually more cramped, and less comfortable.
Love my Kifaru Slick Bag. I run cold so I got the 0 degree bag. It's warm and not having to worry about it getting wet is really nice. Only downside is that it's bulky and doesn't compress down super small. For my needs/preferences, it's worth it.
From what I've seen in parts of the zone, anywhere that looks good on Google Earth will have people. Plan on seeing hunters every day, and having to pass up places you wanted to hunt because there are already multiple trucks there.
Plan on 5 trips, you might be able to do 4 depending on terrain and elk size. That's what I do at least. How burnt out you are when you shoot the elk is going to be a factor. Shoot it on the first day of the hunt a mile or two from the truck and 4 trips is probably doable. Shoot one on the...
I had the tag a few years ago. A 4 wheeler is a big advantage to cover ground in that country. I didn't have one, so I picked a few canyons that were harder to access on a 4 wheeler and hit those hard. Didn't see nearly as many deer as the guys that were covering 30+ miles a day, but the ones...
Hey, I don't disagree with you. I have a lot of those same feelings. But because I'm sick of the mob mentality, I'm not going to support it when it may align with my beliefs. I would be a hypocrite to do so.
I think the modern hunting movement as you call it is far from perfect. But it at...
