If I'm doing a weekend backpack trip or coyote hunting I'll use my Nomad with an Elberstock scabbard mounted with malice clips. Longer hunts where weight and room becomes an issue i use a DT1 with my rifle strapped to the side.
The last time I weighed my pack I was just under 70 lbs for an 8 day solo hunt, including everything but the clothes on my back. It gets expensive obsessing over pack weight. I found it alot cheaper to lose 15 pounds off my weight than 5 pounds off my pack.
The last time that I weighed my pack...
I like a wood stove in a floorless shelter at anytime of the year. I use a Kifaru Tut but there are many quality shelter brands. I’ve used both Ti Goat and Seek Outside stoves and both are top notch. If the weather turns wet it’s sure nice to be able to dry gear and clothes in your shelter. In...
Thanks for the reply Eric. I want to be clear that in my original post I was not railing against the product but merely the lag times. Alot of us buying your products are working stiffs and our purchases sometimes involve more than a years worth of expendable cash. I currently own multiple...
I truly wish Kifaru would invest a little more capital on inventory instead of new bags every other month. Extended lead times are fine for start ups but once a company is established orders should ship with in days not weeks.
Is the use of a bear fence common these days? 30 years of hunting and backpacking in the mountains and the idea of using one has never crossed my mind. Are guys using them at night or during the day while they’re out of camp?
Has anyone tried mounting a Kifaru bag on a Stone Glacier Xcurve frame? If so, how did it fit and what modifications did you have to make? I’m thinking of picking one up to mount my Nomad 2 on.
Just a few pics from this year’s bear hunt. With work and family I was only able to get out for four days.
Packed and ready to leave home.
The TUT performed well through 2 days of steady rain.
Saw ten bears in the 4 days. Finally closed the deal on this 6’ 8” Bruin. I love spot and stock...
Your neighbors must think you're a freak but I'm glad to read your post. I just sunk this years kit money into a new Enigma -17*C quilt. Weather I like it or not it's this years go to bag.
I would definitely take the stove and not take the jet boil. Leaving the jet boil and fuel at home drops the weight penalty of having a hot tent to about 1 lb. It doesn’t take long to boil 2 cups of water on a wood stove for your MH.
I’m with Ron on the Wifi stove. My only complaint with it is the door. When you stock it full of wood and try to choke it off to get a slow burn it leaks smoke miserably. I was able to cure the problem by making a new door out of some titanium foil I had laying around ( an old chimney ). Once I...
