    It's true Idaho's elk population is steady. However they have fled the national forest mountians to mainly private land. Literally right into towns or ranches and farms Now the fish and game dept. pays out millions of dollars to farmers for crop depredation.

    True Pioneer is a bigger zone Both will have hunting pressure nowadays

    I've hunted both Smokey and Pioneer zones My opinion is Pioneer zone has alot more hunting pressure Can have encounters with wolves anywhere I'd be more aware of bears in either zone
