If you are going to fly, I would suggest flying right into Smithers. It’s a small airport but has (or did have) a couple options for connecting flights. If not flying directly into Smithers the next best option would be to fly into Prince George and rent a vehicle to drive out to Smithers...
I’m in BC so have plenty of opportunity here. Got multiple mule deer , moose and elk already. Next bucket list is mnt goat though. I’ve been out for goat hunt past two falls but haven’t connected yet. I keep telling myself I will do a stone sheep hunt one of these years but I need to get on that...
Moose, elk, mule and white tail deer and mnt goat for sure. Will probably buy a black bear tag as well just in case. A buddy has also talked about a stone sheep hunt so may tag along if I can make the time work but it can’t impact elk or moose hunting this year. Life is nice living in northern B.C.
Welcome to the site Matt, good to see another B.C. guy on here. I’m up in Mackenzie and hunt the same species. Been on a couple goat hunts but not stones yet.
I purchased a couple sets of the XL off of camofire a few months ago. Prepping for upcoming hunt I washed them as I had previously read about the smell. I noticed a small hole on one of the bags when I was hanging it to dry. Turns out every one of the bags in the 2 sets has a small hole near one...
There was a thread on here a couple years ago about trail runners for hunting. I tried it last year on my backpack elk hunt for a few days. Pros are light feet, which helps after a week of hiking through the bush. When it rained they dried out much faster than the leather hikers.
Cons: I had...
I've always enjoyed moose hunting but my favourite hunt the past 6-7 years has been an elk hunt in northern BC with the guys. River boat in and hike off river in the prime of the rut. Great group of guys that all get along, time around the fire after a hard day of hiking/hunting makes the trip...
Thanks for the review on the new pattern.
Stormlight rain jacket for me. I would be using it in the local mountains chasing goats in the later summer and then down low chasing the elk in September.
Professional Forester in BC.
Been with the same company for 16 years so 4 weeks each year but also got 3 bonus weeks to be used between years 15 and 20 (4 bonus weeks at 20 year anniversary). Take holidays for elk and goat but hunt moose every day I go to the field and the odd weekend day. Rest...
Purchased lots of good gear I like and works great. Biggest mistake has been the large thick cotton game bags I purchased a few years before I learned about TAG bags. They were expensive, are heavy and bulky.
Will keep them for moose hunting but moving onto synthetic game bags for backpack hunts.
Welcome Cole. It's a great site to gather info on backpacking and hunting. Some of the stories are great as well. Share your thoughts and your experiences when you can.
